Three-time Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg is involved in many projects at the moment, most of them as a producer. However, he also has a mysterious film he plans to write and direct, which has already set a release date.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg’s new film will premiere on May 15, 2026. The movie will come from Universal and Ammblin Entertainment, Spielberg’s production company. So far, the movie doesn’t have a title, and is described as an original, based on a story by the critically acclaimed director. His longtime collaborator, David Koepp, will pen the script. The two have previously worked together on Jurassic Park and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which have brought in more than $3 billion at the worldwide box office.

Spielberg’s last directed film was 2022’s The Fabelmans, which starred Michelle Williams and Gabriel LaBelle. The drama received seven Oscar nominations, including for Best Director and Best Motion Picture. However, it didn’t win in any of the categories. Worldwide, the film grossed $43.2 million (via The Numbers).

One of his upcoming projects was supposed to be an untitled film about the main character from Bullitt, starring Bradley Cooper, with a script from Josh Singer. There were rumors the director might start filming the movie this year, but it appears there is no update on the film, which will center around the character made famous by Steve McQuinn in the ’60s.

Steven Spielberg Is Working on Several Famous IPs

Steven Spielberg is one of the most successful directors of all time, having won the Oscar three times, getting two awards for 1993’s Schindler’s List (Best Picture and Best Director) and also winning Best Director for 1998’s Saving Private Ryan. Aside from writing and directing, he also produced many successful films, and he’s involved in several famous franchises.

One of them is the new Jurassic World 4. The action film, whose plot is being kept under wraps, will have Gareth Edwards at the helm and star MCU’s Scarlett Johansson, Bridgerton‘s Jonathan Bailey, and Hitman: Agent 47‘s Rupert Friend. Spielberg holds an executive producer role in the upcoming Jurassic World installment, as well as the TV series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

Aside from the Jurassic projects, Spielberg is also tied to the upcoming Twisters reboot, which stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. He is also connected to the upcoming Transformers One, also holding an executive producer role.

So far, his upcoming project slated for release in 2026 doesn’t have an official cast or plot, with details being kept under wraps.
