Teen Titans Movie Gets Disappointing Update From James Gunn

May 29, 20244 Mins Read

Teen Titans will not be the third DC Universe movie to enter production. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has debunked a recent production listing that claimed the upcoming feature was set to begin filming by the end of the year.

On Threads, Gunn was asked by a DC fan if Production List‘s report that Teen Titans would begin shooting in Los Angeles on Dec. 31, 2024 was true. “No,” the DC head simply replied, debunking the production listing. The update will no doubt come as a disappointment to the fans who are excited to see the Teen Titans appear for the first time ever in live-action on the big screen. Gunn also recently debunked a similar report from Production List about DC Studios’ Booster Gold series, casting doubt on the validity of the website when it comes to DC projects.

Following a tease from James Gunn, a live-action Teen Titans movie was reported to be in development in March 2024, with Ana Nogueira attached to pen the screenplay. She previously scripted the DCU movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for DC Studios. At the time of writing, it is unknown which young heroes might be part of the DCU’s Teen Titans lineup. Beast Boy, Raven, Cyborg, Starfire, and Robin/Nightwing are considered to be the most well-known members of the superhero team, having headlined both animated Teen Titans series — the 2003 original and Teen Titans Go! — as well as the live-action series Titans, although Cyborg was absent from that lineup.

Avatar’s Ian Ousley Wants to Play the DCU’s Beast Boy

With Teen Titans still in early development, Gunn has not begun casting the titular heroes for the DCU. However, that hasn’t stopped Ian Ousley — one of the stars of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series — from throwing his hat in the ring to play Beast Boy. In May 2024, the actor revealed during the Avatar: The Last Airbender panel at the 2024 Fan Expo Philadelphia that Beast Boy is a “dream role” for him. “I would love to be Beast Boy,” he added. “So, maybe one day?!”

Superman will be the first film released in the DCU. Gunn recently offered an update on the highly-anticipated reboot, revealing that they are “a little over halfway through shooting.” David Corenswet leads the cast of Superman as Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan co-starring as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane. Plot details remain largely under wraps for the highly-anticipated reboot movie, although Gunn has shared that Superman will focus on the titular hero as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing.
