The latest film in the Transformers franchise arrives on VOD this week, along with the new thriller Azrael, starring Samara Weaving, and the weirdest movie of the week by far, Frankie Freako.
Frankie Freako, which feels like it owes a debt to ’80s classics like Howard the Duck, Gremlins, and Child’s Play, stars Matthew Kennedy as the voice of Frankie Freako, a grotesque “rock and roll goblin” who runs a party hotline. When a bored yuppie named Conor (Conor Sweeney ) calls the number hoping to spice up his life, he unwittingly unleashes Frankie’s evil forces and is unable to contain them.
These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
Transformers One, out this week on digital, is something of an origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron’s long simmering beef. Yes, before these two… transformed… into rivals, they were once friends. In this animated feature, Chris Hemsworth stars as the voice of Optimus Prime, while Brian Tyree Henry voices Megatron. Other voice actors in the Transformers One cast include Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.
Samara Weaving stars in the new horror film Azrael, about a young woman who is attempting to survive after being ousted from a cult that views speaking as a sin. Set in a dystopian era after the Rapture, Azrael and hr boyfriend Kenan (played by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) are running from both the cult leaders who want her dead and the demonic creatures who prey on humans who remain on Earth. The film is out now on VOD after spending a month in theaters.
