One of Hollywood’s most beloved action movie stars is set to throw down in the upcoming film, Ballerina Overdrive.
According to Deadline, Uma Thurman has joined the cast for Ballerina Overdrive, an upcoming independent action film directed by Vicky Jewson. Kate Freund penned the script for Ballerina Overdrive, which reportedly will center around “a troupe of ballerinas who find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a dance competition.” Thurman will star alongside Lana Condor (Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse), Iris Apatow (Funny People), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place), Maddie Ziegler (The Fallout) and Avantika (Senior Year).
The film is currently in production, and no official release date has been announced yet. Ballerina Overdrive has undergone some major casting shake-ups as Lena Headey, Yara Shahidi and Isabela Merced were originally set to star, but are no longer attached to the project. Jewson’s previous work includes directing the film Close, an action thriller starring Noomi Rapace, and three episodes of Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origin. Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, Bill Bindley, Mike Karz, and Piers Tempest will serve as producers on the film.
Thurman Will Star Alongside Charlize Theron in The Old Guard 2
Thurman, who is best known for iconic roles in Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill movies, still continues to thrive in the action genre. She is set to star alongside Charlize Theron in the upcoming Netflix sequel, The Old Guard 2, though the film has experienced some delays along the way. The film wrapped several years ago, casting doubt on whether the film was officially shelved. However, Theron recently shared an update confirming that the sequel would still be released. The Old Guard 2 is expected to release sometime in 2025.
The Old Guard was based on the comic series of the same name, created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. It was a smash hit for Netflix, having reached over 72 million households in the first four weeks after it was released onto the platform. Theron starred alongside KiKi Layne, Veronica Ngo, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Luca Marinelli. All are slated to return for the sequel, which is directed by Victoria Mahoney.
