The trailer offers a glimpse into the fictional world of Kashi, where Prabhas portrays Bhairava as a bounty hunter. Deepika Padukone’s character, who is carrying a child believed to be the avatar of Lord Vishnu, is central to the plot. Ashwatthama, played by Amitabh Bachchan, takes on the responsibility of protecting this unborn child. So far, fans have praised the trailer for its action sequences and high-end visuals, which create a blend of futuristic and mythological backdrops.
Is Prabhas’ upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD set in 2898 AD?
Kalki 2898 AD’s intriguing trailer showcases different timelines, spanning from the period before and after the Mahabharata war. This dual timeline is emphasized through sequences featuring Ashwatthama, who is seen with a glowing gem on his head in one scene and without it in another, but with a bloodied bandage on his forehead.
Earlier, director Nag Ashwin also hinted at the film’s expansive timeline. He said, “The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6000 years in time.” This immense period is highlighted in a previous promotional post on X (formerly Twitter), which read, “The story that ended 6000 years ago. Begins May 9th, 2024 (initial release date).”
Fans have taken to social media to decode the timeline. One Reddit user noted that Kali Yuga started 5125 years ago from now, immediately following the end of the Mahabharata. Another user explained the significance of the year 2898 AD, pointing out that the Kali Yuga began in 3102 BC. Adding 6000 years to that would indeed bring us to 2898 AD (6000 – 3102 = 2898).
While the film appears to involve elements of time travel, the trailer does not provide definitive evidence about its period. All promotional materials emphasize that the story began 6000 years ago. Thus, the audience can expect that the makers will reveal full details with the film’s release on June 27, 2024.
