Watch the Trailer For ‘People We Meet on Vacation’
Get ready to pack your bags: the trailer for “People We Meet on Vacation,” the film adaptation of Emily Henry’s novel of the same name, finally dropped on Sept. 30.
The film, set to premiere on Jan. 9, 2026 on Netflix, follows two best friends, Poppy (Emily Bader) and Alex (Tom Blyth), as they take their annual summer vacation, a tradition they’ve held for a decade — but not without some bumps along the way.
The trailer opens with Poppy walking up to baggage claim, listening to “Hang With Me” by Robyn in her headphones. As she picks up her bag, she starts singing the song out loud, just to turn around and see Alex standing behind her.
“I was not expecting to see you,” she says as he takes her headphones off. “My bag came out first and that never happens.”
The trailer cuts to scenes of the pair looking through guidebooks, sharing meals and drunkenly stumbling home together, before landing on a conversation with two other people.
“Are you guys like, a thing?” a woman asks them.
“No, we’re just friends,” Poppy and Alex reply at the same time.
Poppy adds: “Platonic travel companions.”

Henry’s book was published in 2021 and quickly rose to the top of the bestseller charts, along with her other romances like “Beach Read,” “Book Lovers,” “Funny Story” and more.
The author spoke about fans’ reactions to early screenings of “People We Meet on Vacation” in an April interview with TODAY.com.
“I do get tagged and saw some really excited readers who got to see an early cut of the movie,” she said. “It thrilled me and relieved me.
“When I saw the cut, I felt pretty sure that the readers were going to be totally in love with it,” she added. “But it’s definitely still a relief and really exciting to see what has been the case so far.”
Henry described the process of adapting a book as going through “the full spectrum of human emotion.”
“It truly is a miracle that anything gets made, and it’s especially a miracle when something good gets made because there are so many obstacles,” she said. “The big thing for me is wanting the adaptations to be something that the readers would be excited about but that also can stand alone as movies. That’s what everybody wants, and I do believe that they’ve managed to pull that off.”
Henry’s most recent book, “A Great Big Beautiful Life,” was published in April, and the author said she’s planning to write more romance books in the future.
“I will write some more straightforward romantic comedies in the coming years, but I also really enjoyed getting to do something different and I’m excited to see what else is out there that would be fun to work on,” she said, referring to her most recent book. “At some point, I would love to revisit writing thrillers, but I am always going to love a love story.”
She added: “The purpose of a happily ever after, to me, is to present the idea of hope and to present the idea that even though the world can be chaotic and scary and unpredictable, there are these things in our lives that make all of it worth it or manageable on some level, and that is love.”
