Who Fired the Missile in New Netflix Movie?

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this apocalyptic thriller centers on the Fort Greely radars, which detect an approaching missile headed toward the U.S. Time is running out for the President and his team as they race to stop the deadly threat.
Who launched the missile on Chicago in A House of Dynamite?
The film doesn’t reveal the name of the person, organization, or country that launched the missile aimed at Chicago in A House of Dynamite. Director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Noah Oppenheim wanted nuclear proliferation to be the villain.
In the beginning, Captain Olivia Walker is shown heading to work in the White House Situation Room. On the other hand, Major Daniel Gonzalez goes to the 59th Missile Defense Battalion after an argument with his wife.
The characters soon become alert when an unattributed ICBM is fired. At first, it seems like a test missile. Later, they realize that it’s targeted towards the U.S., sparking chaos and terror. The military industrial complex jumps into taking immediate action. Initially, they launch two GBIs (Ground-Based Interceptors). Next, STRATCOM and Secretary of Defense Reid Baker arrange a meeting to discuss how to tackle the dangerous situation.
In the film’s ending, the President doesn’t get a signal on his phone when he tries to reach out to his wife. He then reads a verification code sent to his phone. The missile is fired at Chicago, causing massive terror. People head to the Raven Rock bunker in Pennsylvania. The credits roll after showing Gonzalez on the ground in Alaska. Kathryn Bigelow addressed the film’s ambiguous ending, explaining that she wanted the audience to leave the theater with something to think about.
“I want audiences to leave theaters thinking, ‘OK, what do we do now? This is a global issue, and of course I hope against hope that maybe we reduce the nuclear stockpile someday. But in the meantime, we really are living in a house of dynamite. I felt it was so important to get that information out there, so we could start a conversation. That’s the explosion we’re interested in — the conversation people have about the film afterward,” the director added. (via Netflix Tudum)
