Turkey’s ambassador to India Firat Sunel’s is a Bollywood fan, particularly the Aamir Khan blockbuster Laal Singh Chaddha, which the diplomat claims to have seen at least four times. According to Sunel, Laal Singh Chaddha—an Indian adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump—was “more successful” than the Tom Hanks-starring original film from 1994.
Turkish Envoy Firat Sunel Talks About Laal Singh Chaddha
He said as per PTI, “I am a fan of Bollywood movies and my favorite actor is Aamir Khan. Laal Singh Chaddha, I have watched this movie at least four times. It is an adaptation of Forrest Gump. But this movie, for me, is more successful than the original one.”
“When you watch Bollywood movies, you also see the Indian lifestyle and background. You learn so much about India and Indian people, so that’s why Bollywood is getting more and more successful,” he added.
The ambassador claimed that after watching Laal Singh Chaddha, which was also filmed in Turkiye, he became aware of the numerous parallels between Turkish and Indian culture.
Sunel discussed the movie’s opening sequence, in which Aamir’s character is shown serving golgappas to other passengers on a train before consuming one himself.
“This (the scene) is normal for you and me, because it is a tradition. In Turkiye, we also offer food to people who are in proximity before we eat. But when somebody in America watches this movie, they wouldn’t understand it. They would think because ‘He is not a smart boy, that’s why he offered the food to other people’. Maybe because I catch so many similarities between our societies is that I feel so interested about the movies here,” he added.
Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan, was an adaption of the Tom Hanks and Oscar-winning movie Forrest Gump. 2022 saw the release of it. Kareena Kapoor Khan was among the other stars.
