11 Best Free Action Movie Websites

January 10, 20247 Mins Read

There are hundreds of free action movies online that you can stream in just a few minutes time from the comfort of your own home through a free movie site, or on the go from your phone or tablet with a free movie app.

None of these website offer just action films. Many of my picks below also include drama movies and other genres.

What We Like

  • Don’t have to make a user account.

  • Support for subtitles and captions.

What We Don’t Like

  • Frequent ads.

  • Movies are regularly rotated and removed from the list.

  • Can’t sort by popularity.

Crackle has a large assortment of dozens of action movies and TV shows. You can see the films recommended by the site, view them all on one page, and filter the list by the date in which they were added.

The following are just a few of the movies I’ve been able to watch: Pusher, Captain Morten and the Spider Queen, TAR, Magic Hour, Ragnarok, Centurion, Get Gone, and A Hero for a Day.

What We Like

  • Lots of high-quality movies.

  • Frequent new additions.

  • Useful sorting options.

What We Don’t Like

  • Not everything you find is free to watch.

  • Ads are in every film.

Vudu is a great source for free action movies because there are high-quality options and lots of movies you’re probably already familiar with.

A few of the most-watched action films available for free here include Guardian, The Wave, Blood Brother, Cats, Double Threat, Big Stan, The Head Hunter, and Season of the Witch.

Some movies on Vudu are available only at a cost. To make sure you’re selecting only the movies with ads, look for titles that say Free With Ads.

What We Like

  • Multiple video playback quality options.

  • “Only Free on Tubi” section has films you won’t find elsewhere.

  • Long list of action films.

What We Don’t Like

  • Not available in Europe and some other countries.

  • Videos include lots of repetitive ads.

  • Can’t sort the movies.

  • TV shows are mixed into the same list.

Another source with hundreds of options is Tubi. This site is easy to use, offers HD movies, includes subtitles, and works in full screen mode.

The last time I visited Tubi, action movies like these were available for free streaming: Apocalypto, The Man In The Iron Mask, Dark Blue, Panama, Payback, Colors, and Jupiter Ascending.

What We Like

  • High-quality options.

  • Subtitles support.

  • Browse by action subgenres.

  • Built-in IMDb information.

What We Don’t Like

  • Can’t sort by popularity or recently added.

  • Must log in to watch anything.

Amazon’s Freevee has tons of free movies, many that you’ve heard of, but also some original titles.

One thing I like about watching movies here is that I can choose subgenres to find, for example, animated action movies or scary ones. It also incorporates movie information; you can see who’s in the scene you’re watching, get the full cast list, and even pull music information, all available next to the video player.

There aren’t any sorting options for just the action movies, so you’ll have to flip through them manually. A few examples include Ready Player One, Baby Driver, Nobody, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Captain Phillips, Post Impact, and A-X-L.

What We Like

  • Updated often with new free movies.

  • Find obscure older films and shows you won’t see elsewhere.

  • Engage with other viewers in the comments.

What We Don’t Like

  • No page that shows just the action films.

  • Only around 100 movies marked as ‘action.’

  • Must have a YouTube account.

YouTube is clearly known for its videos, but not everybody knows that it also also completely free and legal movies. YouTube maintains a list of these films through the link below. There’s a whole section just for Action & adventure films.

A couple example titles I’ve seen here include Train to Busan, The Wandering Earth 2, Sakra, Riddick, Forgotten Experiment, and Terminator 3: Rise Of the Machines, but there are dozens more to uncover.

What We Like

  • Big collection.

  • Unique categories.

What We Don’t Like

  • Lots of commercials.

  • Can’t filter the list of action movies.

  • Unfriendly user interface.

Lots of other free action movies are available through Popcornflix. Some that I’ve seen include Defiant, Android Cop, Eve, Anti Matter, 10th & Wolf, and 100 Below Zero.

While there are hundreds of titles here, you can’t sort the list by popularity or recently added, so you have to just scroll through it or search by title.

What We Like

  • Great selection.

  • High-quality films.

  • Supports captions.

  • No user account required.

What We Don’t Like

  • Films can’t be sorted by date or popularity.

  • Must scroll left to right to view the movies.

  • Movies and shows are mixed in together.

Although the Roku Channel looks like a Roku-only streaming service, it runs from a computer, too. Among several other categories is one just for action movies like The Condemned, Red Dawn, Dances With Wolves, True Lies, Open Range, El Dorado, and Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs.

What We Like

  • On-screen guide automatically adjusts to your timezone.

  • Supports 4K streaming for some channels.

  • Has live and on-demand films.

What We Don’t Like

  • Can’t filter the on-demand titles by popularity.

Pluto TV has an always-on, live TV channel showing action movies all day, every day. You can watch these movies right now on your computer, TV, or mobile device without creating a user account.

Another way to find free movies here is through their long list of on-demand movies. This is different from the live TV option because you can start, stop, fast-forward, etc., just like you can when watching a recorded movie.

A few of the on-demand action titles I’ve seen include Destroyer, Equilibrium, Ghost in the Shell, Aeon Flux, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Nick of Time, and No Way Out.

What We Like

  • Lots of extra movie information.

  • Easily locate other movies with the same actors.

  • Includes trailers.

  • Mostly short ads.

What We Don’t Like

  • No sorting options.

  • Must log in to see the full list of movies.

Plex has loads of movies in a handful of traditional genres, including action. You can view trailers, reviews, ratings, and cast members, plus build a watchlist of your favorite movies.

I’ve been able to watch Warrior, Heat, Bronson, Blitz, Mandy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, Superhero Movie, Dog Soldiers, and IP Man 3.

What We Like

  • Great place for titles you’ve never heard of.

  • Shows related movies.

  • Add titles to a watchlist.

What We Don’t Like

  • Can’t sort the list by popularity, rating, etc.

  • Doesn’t verify your age for NC-17 movies.

If you’re looking for hidden gems, Filmzie is the place for it. This service has lots of low-budget looking movies because they’re from independent filmmakers, but I’ve found some really great movies here.

Here are just a few picks from their collection to give you an idea of what’s available: Alex & Jamie, The Congress, After School Special, Blue Jay, All About the Money, and Essex Heist.

What We Like

  • Collects links to movies hosted on other streaming sites.

What We Don’t Like

  • Not all movies are free to watch.

  • Video playback quality is good but inconsistent.

  • Must watch the movies on other sites.

Yidio is a bit different than these other sites because its more like a search engine for movies. It searches other movie streaming sites for movies and then provides links to watch them. It supports action movies in addition to several other genres, and you can filter by title and rating, such as R, G, or PG-13.

Choose Free as the source and Action from the genre section to find movies such as Top Gun, The Red Baron, Highway 395, Left Behind, The Most Dangerous Game, The Substitute, and The Long Kiss Goodnight.
