Coming off triumphs with critical and commercial successes of Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Skydance Media is developing a movie based on the mysterious Bermuda Triangle.

As per the report from Deadline, director Marc Webb, known for making 500 Days of Summer, as well as The Amazing Spider-Man series, has officially signed on to steer the ship of Skydance’s long-anticipated action-adventure film, tentatively titled, Bermuda. The project, centered around the enigmatic Bermuda Triangle, has been in the works for quite some time. However, due to the ongoing Writers’ Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the film still remains in early stages, lacking an attached writer, or cast members.

Once the strikes conclude, Webb is expected to provide his expertise in script consultation during writing process. While the plot specifics are currently under wraps, the narrative seems to be taking place within the enigmatic patch of the Caribbean known for its history of vanishing planes and ships. This adventurous premise, with certain hints of horror-thriller elements, has left fans eager for further revelations about the film’s storyline.

Backing Bermuda is a team of producers, including David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, while Aimee Rivera oversee the project for Skydance. It should be noted that back in 2017, another Spider-Man director, Sam Raimi was in talks to direct the film for Skydance, Crooked Highway and Mockingbird Pictures, with Ryan Reynolds set to star, and Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard writing the script, before John Gatins provided a new script the following year. In 2020, however, Doctor Stranger director Scott Derrickson was in talks to direct and produce the movie with a new script from C. Robert Cargill, while Chris Evans had entered the discussions to play the lead role.

Renowned for his breakthrough with 500 Days of Summer, Webb is currently working on Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Snow White, featuring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, which will mark his return to feature films after a seven-year-long period. The director had recently been more involved in television projects, including the Disney+ series, Just Beyond.

In the meantime, Skydance is also moving ahead with its upcoming lineup of high-profile projects, including the Netflix films Spy Kids: Armageddon, and The Old Guard 2, along with The Family Plan, The Gorge, and Mayday, which are slated for Apple TV+ release. Additionally, the much-anticipated Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two is also set to arrive during next year’s summer, with more adrenaline-pumping action.
