Actor Alan Cumming, who is set to reprise the role of Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, recently spoke on whether he received a script for the movie. Cumming originally portrayed the character in 2003’s X2. He also voiced Kurt in the 2006 video game X-Men: The Official Game.

Cumming confirmed during a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that he indeed got a script for Avengers: Doomsday. This comes after speculations that the movie didn’t have a finished script while going into production, a criticism that Marvel has faced in the past as well.

When asked if he even saw a script for Avengers: Doomsday, Cumming responded, “We eventually saw a script.” He elaborated that these movies are often “complicated” to make, especially a project like Doomsday, which involves dozens of superheroes. Cumming also confirmed that some of the superheroes have different aliases due to “secrecy.” He added, “I got the gist of it, but I wasn’t like, ‘Oh, yeah!’”

After the interviewer noted that Doomsday as a project was “ever evolving,” Cumming agreed. He later continued, “It’s massive. It really is massive… I just pity the poor production coordinator who had to schedule, honestly, something like 28 of probably the world’s busiest actors.” He then quipped, “Someone is having a nervous breakdown in Surrey somewhere right now.”

In the same interview, Cumming disclosed that he had finished filming for Doomsday, though he noted that there was also a possibility for re-shoots. Additionally, he revealed that he was just shooting for Doomsday and not for Avengers: Secret Wars and teased the return of Halle Berry’s Ororo Munroe / Storm. Notably, as things stand, Berry is not part of the confirmed list of Doomsday cast. However, Marvel has stated on multiple occasions that the cast can potentially expand.

Avengers: Doomsday debuts in U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026.
