Monster: The Ed Gein Story official Netflix trailer
The creators behind Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and The Jeffrey Dahmer Story have released the trailer for their most gruesome story yet, The Ed Gein Story, which follows the chilling crimes committed by the convicted murderer and suspected serial killer in 1950s Wisconsin.
Edward Theodore Gein, also known as The Butcher of Plainfield, was a murderer, suspected serial killer and body snatcher who exhumed corpses from local cemeteries to fashion keepsakes from their bones and skin. He also confessed to killing tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954 and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957.
He was initially found unfit to stand trial and was confined to a mental health facility. By 1968, he was judged competent to stand trial and was found guilty of murdering Bernice. However, he was found legally insane and placed in a psychiatric institution.

Upon searching Ed’s property following his arrest, sheriffs fund Worden’s decapitated body in a shed, hung upside down by her legs with a crossbar at her ankles and ropes at her wrists.
In the house, authorities found a wastebasket made of human skins, skulls on his bedpost, masks made from the skin of female heads, a belt made from female human nipples and many more vile objects made from human bones and skin.
In Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Netflix adaptation of the heinous crimes, Charlie Hunnam takes on the difficult role of Ed.
The official trailer starts with someone saying: “There’s something real dark about you, Eddie Gein.” Another scene showed him dunking his hands in a bucket of cow’s milk as his mother is heard telling him: “Eddie, you’re a mess. Only a mother could love you.”
He’s seen at diners staring at female patrons, who look at him in disgust, before the scene changes to him observing other women at a skating rink.
When Charlie’s character finally speaks, he’s heard asking in an eery voice: “Is this okay?” to a dead body lying on a table. The scene cuts to Ed dancing in a woman’s clothes and when he turns around, viewers are shocked to see that he’s wearing her face as a mask.
The trailer also showed him hanging human skin out to dry, lying next to graves and kidnapping women.
Right at the end of the gripping trailer, Ed seemingly stares right at the camera as he tells viewers: “You’re the one who can’t look away.”
Stars in The Ed Gein Story include Laurie Metcalf as Ed’s mother, Suzanna Son as Adeline Watkins, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, Lesley Manville as Bernice Worden and Addison Rae as a teenager who mysteriously disappeared.
Ed’s crimes had a huge effect on popular culture and inspired the likes of Psycho, House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of The Lambs.
The season is set to release on October 3, 2025, on Netflix.
