Sakamoto is back again! Toho has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a new live-action movie based on the hit manga and hit anime series called Sakamoto Days, about a “plus-sized assassin” named Sakamoto Taro. The anime series actually just debuted on Netflix earlier in 2025 – it’s streaming now there if anyone wants to watch it. This is pretty much a shot-for-shot remake. He was once the most powerful killer but he retired after falling in love with Aoi. He now runs a small neighborhood shop called “Sakamoto Store.” He fights using whatever weapons are at hand, rather than relying on any specific ones. He loves his wife and daughter above all else… This is what happens when his past catches up with him. The live-action version stars Ren Meguro as Taro Sakamoto, Aya Ueto as Aoi Sakamoto, with Fumiya Takahashi and Miyu Yoshimoto. This teaser only has barely 30 seconds of footage in it – but it’s still a fun first look. Interesting cinematic decision to keep his glasses opaque & silver even in this live-action version. Who wants to watch?
Here’s the teaser trailers (+ posters) for Yûichi Fukuda’s live-action movie Sakamoto Days, via YouTube:

Sakamoto Taro (starring Ren Meguro), the hitman hailed as “the strongest in history.” One day, he fell in love—and abruptly retired from killing! After marriage and the birth of his daughter, Sakamoto became the manager of a small local shop. He had become so fat… he bore no resemblance to his former self!! But suddenly, a 1 billion yen bounty was placed on his head, and assassins from around the world converged—. An adaptation of the wildly popular battle action manga Sakamoto Days, which has taken the world by storm. Sakamoto Days is a live-action movie written and directed by prolific Japanese writer / director Yûichi Fukuda, director of many movies including Jossy’s, Psychic Kusuo, The Untold Tale of the Three Kingdoms, Black Night Parade, Gintama Live Action the Movie, Once Upon a Crime, Saint Young Men: Holy Men vs Demon Army, and Under Ninja previously. Based on the hit manga written & illustrated by Yuto Suzuki. Produced by Credeus & Avex Pictures. Toho opens the Sakamoto Days movie in Japan starting Spring 2026 – during Golden Week 2026 in Japan. No US release date is set – stay tuned. How’s that look?
