Dunkin’ and New England

There’s no doubt about it. Dunkin is part of our lives in just about every situation you could think of, especially here in New England.  Actors like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Adam Sandler come from here, so of course they use Dunkin’ stores, donuts, and coffee in their films.

Dunkin’ Started out as Open Kettle

According to dunkindonuts.com, the very first Dunkin’ was opened in 1948 in Quincy, Massachusetts, by the Founder, William Rosenberg. Its name was “Open Kettle.”

Open Kettle served coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. It wasn’t until two years later that the name Dunkin’ Donuts was born.

The name was inspired by dunking a donut into coffee, then eating it – a practice I don’t see much of today.  Only four years later, the founder opened five other locations.

Dunkin’ Sells a Lot of Coffee

A lot happens in one second.

Dunkin’ sells around 60 cups of coffee every second. That equates to approximately two billion cups of coffee sold worldwide in 2017, according to dunkindonuts.com.

Native New Englanders Love Dunkin’

Since I was born and bred here in New England, my coffee of choice is Dunkin’.  Maybe it’s because I have been drinking it my entire life.  Remember when the old people used to stop at Dunkin’ after they went out to dinner?  One day, my Aunt Hazel and my Uncle George stopped at Dunkin’ after we just ate dinner, and ordered two coffees and two plain Dunkin’ donuts.  I asked if coffee had alcohol in it.  They both said “no,” so I asked if I could have a cup.  I think I was about seven or eight years old.  They said sure, and right then and there, after about 27 sugars and lots of milk, a coffee lover was born.

Hollywood Loves Dunks

Hollywood actors like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Adam Sandler and countless others prefer Dunkin’ coffee.  Now, I don’t know them personally, but I’ve seen their movies and don’t need to know them personally.  I just know.
