While Sydney Sweeney is basking in the success of her recent horror film Immaculate, she seems to have gotten on the wrong side of the Internet again. The Madame Web star faced intense backlash from fans after reports of her starring with Johnny Depp in a new supernatural thriller made the rounds.
Depp has also been receiving backlash ever since his Blow co-star Lola Glaudini reportedly accused him of verbal abuse on the film sets. An insider reported that Sweeney and Depp would be starring in Marc Webb’s new film Day Drinker. However, representatives of the Euphoria star have now confirmed that she would not be starring in the film.
Sydney Sweeney’s Rumored Next Project With Johnny Depp
Sydney Sweeney seems to be the ‘it girl’ of Hollywood at the moment as she dabbles in multiple projects. The actress recently tasted success with her rom-com with Glen Powell, Anyone But You, on which she was also an executive producer. While she faced a setback with Sony’s disastrous Madame Web, the actress bounced back with her debut production Immaculate.
The actress has also enjoyed success in the TV industry with her shows The White Lotus and Euphoria receiving critical and audience acclaim. She has two more films in production, including Ron Howard’s thriller Eden, and is also set to film for the third season of Euphoria, which was recently postponed (via Variety).
Earlier this week, industry insider Jeff Sneider reported in his newsletter that Sydney Sweeney would be starring in a new supernatural thriller called Day Drinker. What got everyone’s attention was the presence of Johnny Depp in the film, which was set to be directed by Marc Webb. According to Sneider, the film would follow the story of
“An enigmatic stranger (Depp) and a bartender (Sweeney) mourning the loss of her lover…[while exploring themes of] love, friendship, and revenge.”
The film was set to be written by Zach Dean, who is known for films such as Fast X and The Tomorrow War. The film would be Depp’s first Hollywood project since his highly publicized defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. The actor was last seen in the French film Jeanne Du Barry.
Sydney Sweeney Will Not Be Starring With Johnny Depp
After reports by Jeff Sneider made the rounds online, fans of Sydney Sweeney were quick to express their disdain for the star for collaborating with Johnny Depp. The Pirates of the Caribbean star made headlines again this week after he was accused of berating and verbal abuse by his former co-star, Lola Glaudini.
Glaudini mentioned in the Power Angel Truths podcast that she was screamed at by the actor on the sets of the crime thriller Blow. She mentioned that she was given the instruction to laugh by director Jonathan Demme during a scene, and when she did that, Depp came to her and berated her after the shot. She said,
“Johnny Depp, when they say ‘Cut,’ walks over to me, comes up to me, sticks his finger in my face and I’m in a bikini on the floor like this and he goes, ‘Who the f*ck do you think you are? Who the f*ck do you think you are? Shut the f*ck up! I’m out here, and I’m trying to f*cking say my lines, and you’re f*cking pulling focus, you f*cking idiot.’”
While the allegations were denied by representatives of Johnny Depp, his career has been facing setbacks after setback ever since his highly publicized trial with ex-wife Amber Heard. This backlash reportedly transferred to Sydney Sweeney when reports of her working with the Ed Wood star surfaced. However, Sweeney’s team reportedly stated that she would not star in Marc Webb’s Day Drinker after all. (via Discussing Film).
