David Corenswet’s Superman Suit Revealed in New Look at DCU Movie

May 6, 20243 Mins Read

Superman writer-director James Gunn has released the first official look at David Corenswet suited up as the Man of Steel. Although mostly hidden, the image does seem to confirm that Corenswet’s Superman will have red trunks, a detail that was absent on the DC Extended Universe Superman’s suit.

The image was shared on Gunn’s official Threads account with the caption, “Get ready. Superman. 7.11.25.” The director shared in a follow-up post that the photo was “taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera.” The first look at Corenswet in costume as the DC Universe’s Superman comes a month after Gunn teased on Threads that he was “almost ready” to show fans the Superman suit. Check out the official first look at Superman below.

Justin Howell, the stunt double for David Corenswet in Superman, reveals when production will wrap on the highly-anticipated DC Universe movie.

Production on Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy) began, coincidentally, on the superhero’s birthday, Feb. 29. Despite being released after the upcoming adult animated series, Creature Commandos, Gunn has stated that he views Superman as the official start of the DCU. Plot details remain largely under wraps for the highly-anticipated reboot movie, although Gunn has shared that Superman will focus on the titular hero as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing.

It is also confirmed that the movie will not retell the Man of Steel’s origin story, instead picking up with Clark Kent already operating as the superhero in Metropolis while working at the Daily Planet. Gunn also revealed that Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, will be the main villain of Superman, suggesting that the movie could feature additional antagonists for the Man of Steel.

Who Stars in the First DCU Movie?

Besides Corenswet and Hoult, Superman features Rachel Brosnahan as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Neva Howell as Martha Kent. Sean Gunn and Milly Alcock are also expected, but not yet confirmed, to appear in the DCU movie as Maxwell Lord and Supergirl, respectively.

David Corenswet Was Almost the MCU’s Adam Warlock

Before Corenswet was cast as the DCU’s Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman, he auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in Gunn’s 2023 Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. The DC Studios head recently confirmed that Corenswet had tried out for Adam Warlock, although he admitted to having no personal recollection of the audition. “I asked him about it and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it,” Gunn wrote on Threads.

Superman is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
