Barbie 2: Will A Sequel Happen? Margot Robbie Comments & Everything We Know

Barbie 2 might not be confirmed, but there are plenty of details that suggest a sequel to Greta Gerwig’s movie could be on its way in the future.

When Every Song On The Barbie Soundtrack Plays In The Movie

Original Songs, Fun Covers, And Oscar-Winning Tunes

“Pink” by Lizzo – The original song from Lizzo is the first featured on the Barbie movie soundtrack and the first song that plays during the movie itself. The single plays during the intro to Barbieland as viewers see Margot Robbie’s stereotypical Barbie wake up and have her morning routine. The song plays again but with some new lyrics during the second day shown in Barbieland where Barbie’s life begins to be different.

“Dance The Night” by Dua Lipa – The second song on the Barbie soundtrack is “Dance The Night” by Dua Lipa, who also plays the role of Mermaid Barbie during the movie. The pop single is heard during Barbie’s house party and is used as the centerpiece of a big dance sequence between the various Barbies and Kens. It is during this scene that Barbie questions if anyone else has ever thought about death.

“Silver Platter” by Khalid – The next song on the Barbie soundtrack to be heard in the movie is “Silver Platter” by Khalid. It can be heard in a scene after Barbie’s big party where she and Ken are standing outside the Dream House. Ken is leaning in as if he is trying to kiss Barbie. The song continues to play as Ken asks if he can spend the night since they are boyfriend and girlfriend, only to find out that it is a girl’s night instead.

“butterflies” by GAYLE – Viewers will hear another Barbie song known as “butterflies” by GAYLE next in the movie. The song is featured briefly as part of an explanation of Weird Barbie’s backstory. The scene shows a girl in the real world playing too hard with her Barbie, which includes drawing on her face and cutting her hair.

How Many Barbies Are There (Movie & Real Life)

The Barbie movie features a variety of Barbies accompanying Stereotypical Barbie, and here’s how many there are in both the movie and in real life.

“Closer to Fine” by Indigo Girls – In addition to the songs featured on the Barbie soundtrack, the movie also includes a few other musical sequences using already-known songs. This includes having “Closer to Fine” by Indigo Girls be a recurring musical cue in the movie. Barbie sings it as she is preparing to leave Barbieland, while Gloria is also shown to be singing it in the car at a different point. A cover of the song by Brandi Carlile and Catherine Carlile was released on Barbie: The Album (Best Weekend Ever Edition).

“Journey To The Real World” by Tame Impala – Another addition to the Barbie movie soundtrack comes with the original song from Tame Impala. “Journey To The Real World” is fittingly titled, as the song plays over the montage of Barbie and Ken traveling from Barbieland to the real world. This includes riding a tandem bicycle, sailing a boat, riding a rocket through space, snowmobiling, and much more.

“WATATI (feat. Aldo Ranks)” by KAROL G – The Barbie soundtrack’s songs change a bit with the addition of “WATATI” by KAROL G and Aldo Ranks. The song is performed in Spanish and is used in the movie to signal a change in scenery for the characters as it plays when Ken and Barbie finally arrive in Los Angeles, California. It plays as they look around at the real world and process their feelings about being there.

“Choose Your Fighter” by Ava Max – This song on the Barbie soundtrack plays in the movie shortly after Barbie and Ken come to the real world and get arrested. They are originally arrested after Barbie punches a man who slaps her behind. They then get out of jail and take new outfits from a store, not understanding they need to pay for them, which leads to them being arrested again.

Every Ken In The Barbie Movie Ranked

In addition to a variety of Barbie dolls, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie features many versions of Ken – and here’s every one of them, ranked.

“Angel” by PinkPantheress – The next Barbie song from the soundtrack that plays in the movie is “Angel” by PinkPantheress. The song can be heard as Barbie goes to a high school to find Sasha, the teenager she believes she has come to help. What Margot Robbie’s character does not know at the time is that she is actually meant to help Sasha’s mom, Gloria.

“Speed Drive” by Charli XCX – Charli XCX’s addition to the 2023 Barbie soundtrack is “Speed Drive,” and the movie gives viewers a few different opportunities to hear it. The song originally begins playing when Barbie begins to run through Mattel as she attempts to escape. It stops when she goes into the room where she meets the ghost of Ruth Handler. Hover, the Barbie song resumes playing after Barbie leaves her and leaves Mattel’s building.

“Man I Am” by Sam Smith – Sam Smith takes part in the Barbie soundtrack with an original song called “Man I Am.” It begins playing as Barbie returns to Barbieland with Gloria and Sasha and begins to discover how Ken changed their world. This includes the beach volleyball scene where the Barbies are now cheering on the Kens. The movie uses the song to represent the shift in power in Barbieland and the newfound manpower that exists.

“Hey Blondie” by Dominic Fike – Viewers could have a hard time hearing the new original song by Dominic Fike, “Hey Blondie,” in the movie. This addition to the Barbie movie soundtrack can only be heard in the background of the scene when Barbie seemingly gives up on saving Barbieland and begins to cry on the ground as the Kens party behind her.

10 Barbie & Ken Dolls We Really Want To See In Barbie 2

Barbie has been breaking records left and right and if a sequel ends up happening, there are 10 Barbie and Ken dolls that would be great to include.

“Push” by Matchbox Twenty/Ryan Gosling – Another memorable part of the Barbie movie soundtrack is Ryan Gosling’s cover of “Push” by Matchbox Twenty. The cover comes as Ken wants to play guitar to Barbie after she asks him to be boyfriend/girlfriend. It leads to all the Kens singing and playing instruments to create a version of the song while the Barbies listen. The cover was released as part of Barbie: The Album (Best Weekend Ever Edition).

“I’m Just Ken” by Ryan Gosling – One of the biggest musical numbers in the movie comes with the original Barbie song Ryan Gosling performs called “I’m Just Ken.” The power ballad for the new ruler of Barbieland (also known as the Kendom at the time) begins before the big battle between the various Kens go to war on the beach (and then have a dance battle). “I’m Just Ken” was nominated for Best Original Songs at the Oscars with Gosling memorably performing at the ceremony.

“I’m Just Ken” has been played over 70 million times on Spotify since its release

“What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish – Another big song included on the Barbie soundtrack is Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” single. The single begins to play during Barbie‘s ending after Barbie and Ruth Handler’s ghost talk and Barbie decides she wants to be human. The song can be heard as a montage of young girls and women experiencing life flashes across the screen, giving Barbie an understanding of what her new life will be like. It also plays again during the Barbie credits. “What Was I Made For?” won Best Original Song at the Oscars.

“Barbie World (with Aqua)” by Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice – The rap song from Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice featuring the “Barbie Girl” hook from Aqua does not play during the movie itself. The Barbie soundtrack song only plays during the credits and before the new Barbie post-credits scene. It is the first song heard during the credits as viewers who stick around see the real-life versions of the Barbie dolls that have been made over the years.
