Popular playback and classical singer Kavita Krishnamurthy received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to music. She was conferred with the honour at the annual UK Asian Film Festival (UKAFF) in London.
Kavita Krishnamurthy, 66, has given Bollywood several box-office hits. Her songs are from films like ‘Mr India’ and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. She received the Golden Flame Lifetime Achievement Award in a grand ceremony held over the weekend, followed by a celebratory bash on Monday, May 13.
Kavita was honoured with the prestigious award in recognition of her accomplishments throughout a 40-year career, during which she recorded over 50,000 songs spanning nearly 45 Indian languages.
She also shared a post on Instagram celebrating the achievement. Her caption read, “Honoured to receive the lifetime achievement award from the UK Asian Film Federation organised by the Tongues on Fire, London.”

Following the event, during a special interaction at London’s Taj Hotel, Kavita Krishnamurthy said, “I was always very clear that any film song that my brother or mother would feel embarrassed listening to, I would not be singing.”
Furthermore, at the concluding gala of UKAFF 2024, she was honoured for her unwavering commitment to Indian music through global concerts and the establishment of the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts in Bengaluru, a venture she co-founded with her husband, the renowned violinist L. Subramaniam.
Kavita is best known for tracks such as ‘Nimbooda’, ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast’, Bole Chudiyan’ and ‘Saajanji Ghar Aaye’, among others.
