Diljit Dosanjh’s Amar Singh Chamkila Trailer Released

On March 28, the makers of the movie, alongside Netflix, dropped the much-awaited trailer for the film. They captioned the post, “Tadkila, Bhadkila, Rangeela- woh hai Amar Singh Chamkila. Amar Singh Chamkila premieres on 12 April, only on Netflix!”

The trailer starts with a scene where a young man living in a small village in Punjab is introduced for a live performance. However, his name is mispronounced as Chamkila. When he objects, the organizer dismisses him, telling him to perform as no one would remember his name later. But his music ends up winning hearts, especially women, even though many conservatives object to his ludicrous lyrics. Later, he meets Amarjot Kaur, his singing partner and wife.

Both Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra have lent their voices to some of the original songs in the Punjabi language. The movie captures the rawness of each moment by showcasing live music recordings at actual locations.

Talking about his journey of creating Amar Singh Chamkila, director Imtiaz Ali shared, “I feel that this film or Chamkila’s life is a love story between Chamkila and music. Here is a man who, at some point, felt so frightened by the warnings he received that he broke down and cried. He feared for his life. Yet, a few years later, fully aware that continuing to perform live could result in his death, he still chose to sing.”

Stream Amar Singh Chamkila on Netflix on April 12, 2024.
