Doctor Who | Full trailer released for new Ncuti Gatwa series

March 25, 20243 Mins Read

Ncuti Gatwa’s first series of Doctor Who is almost here – and to remind us of this, the BBC have released a full trailer.

If there’s one thing to take away from the trailer for the new series, it is this – Russell T Davies is putting every penny of the higher budget up on the screen.

With the premiere of Ncuti Gatwa’s debut series just weeks away, the marketing campaign is beginning to ramp up. First, we got the welcome news that former showrunner and Doctor Who’s most prolific writer Steven Moffat has penned an episode for the new series, which is described as “Hitchcockian” in tone. His episode was directed by Julie-Anne Robinson.

Now, we have a full trailer running to two minutes and change. It’s the most footage of the new series we’ve had so far, from the TARDIS crashing through a wall, a Regency-era adventure and, of course, lots of running down corridors. It looks, to coin the Ninth Doctor’s catchphrase, fantastic.

Watch the trailer below:

Aside from Davies and Moffat, we know that one episode will be written by Loki director Kate Herron and comedian and improviser Briony Redman.

Millie Gibson plays companion Ruby Sunday. Jemma Redgrave, Yasmin Finney, Anita Dobson, Michelle Greenidge and Bonnie Langford are reprising the roles of Kate Stewart, Rose Noble, Mrs Flood, Carla Sunday and Melanie Bush, respectively. Indira Varma is also returning to the Whoniverse after playing Susie Costello in Torchwood, playing a character called The Duchess. Other guest stars include Jinkx Monsoon, Aneurin Barnard, Jonathan Groff and Lenny Rush.

The first two episodes of Doctor Who series one, or series 14 if you’re going by traditional numbering, will stream on BBC iPlayer from midnight on the 11th May before being broadcast on BBC One in the evening. Each subsequent episode will follow the same release pattern.
