Lee | Teaser trailer released for Kate Winslet war journalist biopic

May 2, 20242 Mins Read

Kate Winslet stars in biopic Lee, which is arriving this autumn. And here’s the first trailer for the film.

Although Kate Winslet has been at the apex of Hollywood for almost thirty years, in recent years she has pivoted, very successfully, to television, starring in The Mare Of Easttown, winning a BAFTA for 2022 drama I Am Ruth, which she conceived with director Dominic Savage and co-starred with her daughter Mia Threapleton, and most recently starring as dictator Elena Vernham in The Regime.

Her next foray into film is Lee, a biopic of war journalist Lee Miller.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Lee portrays a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer, Lee Miller (played by Kate Winslett). Miller’s singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler’s private bathtub. Lee Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and for the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Above all, the film shows how Miller lived her life at full-throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic & deeply buried secret from her childhood.

The cast also.includes Andy Samberg as Life Magazine photographer David E. Scherman, Alexander Skarsgård as English Surrealist painter, Roland Penrose, Marion Cotillard as Solange D’Ayen, the fashion director of French Vogue and close friend of Miller’s, Josh O’Connor as Tony, a young journalist and Andrea Riseborough as British Vogue Editor Audrey Withers.

It is the feature directorial debut of cinematographer Ellen Kuras. The screenplay was written by Liz Hannah, Marion Hume and John Collee, from a story by Hume, Collee and Lem Dobbs. It is adapted from the biography The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose.

Lee will be released in UK cinemas on 13th September.
