Netflix icon’s new film labelled ‘best Christmas movie this year’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
A “10 out of 10” festive film that’s been hailed as “Mrs Doubtfire at Christmas” is getting an outpour of rave reviews.
Netflix has dropped some amazing classic Christmas films this year including The Holiday and the late Diane Keaton’s The Family Stone but it’s also welcomed some new arrivals.
First there was Champagne Problems with Ransom Canyon star Minka Kelly and then there was Sex Education actor Connor Swindells’ Jingle Bell Heist.
But the new Christmas film that’s already flown straight into the number one most-watched film spot on Netflix is My Secret Santa starring Virgin River icon Alexandra Breckenridge.
After losing her job, desperate single mum Taylor (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) resorts to disguising herself as an old man so she can be hired as a ski resort’s Santa Claus.
But things get complicated for Taylor when she starts falling for the resort owner’s son Mattew Layne, brought to life by New Amsterdam and 90210 actor Ryan Eggold.
Netflix fans have been flooding X, formerly Twitter, and My Secret Santa’s IMDb page to sing the new festive film’s praises.
Marking it as the “best Christmas movie this year”, a fan explained: “In a year where most of the Hallmark movies have been disappointments.
“This movie is fresh, well acted, has great casting and wonderful music.
“I will watch this movie over and over. Alexandra was awesome. This movie made me so happy.”
A second described it as a “must watch” on Netflix as a third said: “I’m a sucker for a cheesy Netflix Christmas rom com, and Jingle Bell Heist and My Secret Santa are easily the best and cutest ones I’ve watched this year.”
A fellow fan exclaimed: “My Secret Santa is a 10/10 loved it so much!” and someone else posted: “Ok Netflix’s My Secret Santa is ADORABLE, I didn’t think I enjoyed this much but I did.”
Other fans called it “hilarious” and “incredible” as some viewers branded it as “Mrs Doubtfire at Christmas” because of Breckenridge dressing up as Santa.
“AB (Alexandra Breckenridge) is a gem in all of her roles, but she was truly believable as Santa!”, a fan wrote.
While someone else added: “Don’t miss My Secret Santa, a charming holiday romcom perfect for rewatching!”
Breckenridge and Eggold aren’t the only recognisable faces in My Secret Santa either as they are joined by Sister, Sister, Family Reunion and The Game star Tia Mowry.
My Secret Santa is available to watch on Netflix.
