New Releases on Netflix This Week & Top 10 Movies & Series: October 18, 2025
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (2025) – Credit: Original Film / Sony Pictures / Album
Welcome along to another weekly roundup of everything new on Netflix in the US this past week. We’ll take a look at four shows and movies that should be on your radar, plus delving into the titles that have been taking up slots in the daily US top 10 charts. Thirty-seven new releases touched down in total, so let’s dive in.
Still lots to look forward to throughout the remainder of October in the run-up to Halloween, and we’re also getting the full list of November arrivals on Wednesday. Until then, we’re tracking all the movies and series we know that are coming next month here.
Now, let’s get into the highlights:
What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
The Diplomat (Season 3)
Number of episodes: 8
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Thriller
Cast: Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi
Writer: Debora Cahn
Awards: Nominated for 3 Primetime
Receiving rave reviews all week is the third instalment of The Diplomat, which has arrived on Netflix for the third year in a row. This new season once again sees tensions and stakes ratcheted up to the next level alongside a bunch of new familiar faces.
The official synopsis for this season reads, “Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she’s after the VP’s job. But now the President is dead, Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is the leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford)”
The biggest issue with this show, of course, is that it’s over before you’re given a chance to even process what happened with it running at a disgustingly short eight episodes (though, thankfully, it’s more than the six that season 2 had). Thankfully, the future of the series is already confirmed, and filming is set to get underway soon.
The Perfect Neighbor (2025)
Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Documentary, Crime, Drama
Director: Geeta Gandbhir
Runtime: 96 min / 1h 36m
In what is undoubtedly Netflix’s buzziest documentary pickup perhaps in its history is The Perfect Neighbor, a documentary that first screened at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year and finally now hits audiences globally on Netflix. Told through police bodycam footage, the documentary looks to tell the story of a neighborhood dispute that continues to escalate to the point where it raises serious concerns regarding the Stand Your Ground laws. An essential watch, the feature doc has picked up awards already and no doubt will spark conversation following its rollout.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Horror
Director: Jennifer Kaytin Robinson
Cast: Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King
Writer: Sam Lansky, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Leah McKendrick
Runtime: 111 min
Nearly every horror property that was considered good or made a buck or two from the 80s, 90s, or even noughties seems to be getting a reboot, and I Know What You Did Last Summer was definitely not getting left out of this craze. Released in the theaters over the summer, the movie performed modestly well and wasn’t expected on Netflix until November but thankfully, it arrived much earlier than expected this week and just in time for Halloween.
In this new iteration, featuring both new faces and old, the plot revolves around a group of friends who accidentally cause a fatal car crash, panic drives them to hide the evidence and swear to silence. But one year later, the secret refuses to stay buried. Someone knows what they did last summer, and vengeance has returned with a familiar hook. As a relentless killer begins hunting them down, the friends uncover a chilling connection to the infamous Southport Massacre of 1997—and the two survivors who may hold the key to stopping the nightmare from happening again.
The Twits (2025)
Rating: PG
Language: English
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: Phil Johnston, Todd Demong, Katie Shanahan
Cast: Margo Martindale, Johnny Vegas, Natalie Portman, Emilia Clarke, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Ryan Lopez
On a lighter subject, albeit a mischievous one, we move over to Netflix’s first animated feature film release following their acquisition of the Roald Dahl library a few years back. Originally envisioned as a TV series but eventually reworked (read about how they managed that with our interview here), this tale is based on The Twits, albeit it puts the grumpy iconic characters into a brand new plot.
Aided by some fun performances and a fun script, the movie won’t be to everyone’s liking, including our own review published yesterday, only granting it a two-star review, but it’s an interesting swing with more to come…
