‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ isn’t over yet. There’s a movie coming after season 3 finale
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” continues to be one of the most popular drama series filmed in North Carolina.
Just hours after the highly anticipated season 3 finale, Prime Video announced that the global hit series based on the bestselling trilogy will conclude with a feature film.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television, at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios said in a press release. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
Not much about the film has been released, including plot details or a premiere date. Like the series, author and UNC alum Jenny Han will once again have a major hand in the movie, which she will both write and direct.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans,” Han said about the new project, which was announced at the series’ finale red carpet celebration in Paris.
The show’s three seasons have been filmed in the Wilmington area, with the final season filming partly in Chapel Hill and on the UNC campus. Thanks to the popularity of the show, the university organized a behind-the-scenes look tour on campus during the final run of the series.
In the meantime, you can stream all three seasons of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” series on Prime Video.
