For 2024, the only superhero coming out is Deadpool & Wolverine, and director Shawn Levy couldn’t help but comment on the franchise’s struggles.
Per Empire, Shawn Levy acknowledged the MCU underperforming at the box office lately. The franchise used to deliver blockbuster after blockbuster, but the magic has faded lately, as 2023’s The Marvels was the lowest-grossing MCU movie to date. Now, the studio is trying to learn from its mistakes, with Disney confirming a plan to limit Marvel’s films and TV shows in the future.

The new installment, which isn’t considered Deadpool 3, is one of the most anticipated films of the summer. “Some of the lines that Ryan and his writers and Shawn worked on have taken on more of a meaning,” Marvel boss Kevin Feige noted about Deadpool’s nickname.

Deadpool Creator Shared High Praise for the Upcoming Film
Rob Liefeld, who created the character alongside writer Fabian Nicieza, shared his thoughts on the upcoming installment featuring the famous antihero. The comic book creator noted that Ryan Reynolds, who has portrayed the character since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is the reason why the upcoming film is so entertaining.
“Deadpool & Wolverine is going to entertain your pants off,” Liefeld wrote on X. “The X-factor of it all is Ryan Reynolds. Make no doubt about it. He recognizes the importance and caretaking of this pivotal role and this is why the film will be the success it is destined for. The irony that the MCU is now relying on Fox standouts is never lost on me.”
Aside from the famous comic book antihero, this time, the film will add another lead character — Wolverine. Deadpool & Wolverine will mark the character’s first return since 2017’s Logan, although plans were originally different. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return “radically” altered the direction of the upcoming film, as the initial idea was for Deadpool 3, which is no longer the case.
Deadpool & Wolverine comes out in theater on July 26.
