Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Release Date Reportedly Revealed (and It Makes Sense)
Avengers: Doomsday is a critical project for Marvel Studios as it looks to end the uneven Multiverse Saga on a high note. A case can be made that this is perhaps the most ambitious movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because directors Joe and Anthony Russo have assembled a stacked ensemble that features 27 actors portraying some of the most notable characters in Marvel lore. Multiple superhero teams will be featured as the conflict against Doctor Doom begins, including the surprise addition of several X-Men characters (played by actors from Fox’s film series). Fans are very curious to see how the Russos balance all of these moving parts, and they may get some idea in the near future.
Now that Avengers: Doomsday appears to have wrapped production, one of the biggest questions is when footage will be released. According to a report from Daniel Richtman (via CBR), a “first look” at Doomsday will be attached to screenings of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which opens in theaters on December 19th.
Attaching The Avengers: Doomsday Teaser to Avatar: Fire and Ash Makes Sense

Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t premiere until December 2026. With that release date so far away, it seems a bit early to unveil a teaser trailer this holiday season. But it could be the best move for Marvel, helping set the stage and tone for what will be a vital year in the MCU’s history. The franchise is not the pop culture juggernaut it was during its heyday in the 2010s. Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* underwhelmed at the box office; The Fantastic Four: First Steps was the only MCU release this year to pass $500 million worldwide. In an effort to revitalize fan interest, it would be a good idea to get the Doomsday hype train rolling now with a captivating teaser that does just enough to generate excitement for what’s to come. With only two movies on the release schedule in 2026, Marvel can go all out promoting Doomsday throughout the year.
If the goal is to build buzz and anticipation for Doomsday, attaching the trailer to Avatar: Fire and Ash is a sound strategy. The first two Avatar films are among the highest grossing films of all time, and the threequel should follow suit. It seems like a safe bet that Fire and Ash will top the 2025 box office charts, meaning there will be a lot of eyeballs on those screenings. Not that an Avengers movie needs an awareness boost, but Marvel would be able to reach the largest amount of people. And if the trailer plays well for the Avatar crowds, then it’ll be an encouraging sign for the MCU moving forward.
Should this rumor pan out, it will be interesting to see how the trailer release is handled. It could be a theater exclusive, similar to what Universal did with the first look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. A teaser played before screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth this summer, and an Odyssey trailer has yet to be officially released online. If Disney wanted to turn the Doomsday trailer release into an even bigger event, making it so that people have to watch it on a big screen would be a way to do that. The studio could hold off putting a first look on its social media channels as a way to encourage people to make a trip to the theater.
As for what the Doomsday teaser could entail, it would make a lot of sense to revolve it around Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Doctor Doom. Unlike Thanos, Doom is arriving to the MCU with virtually no setup, so Doomsday is going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting to establish the character and his motivations. Getting viewers familiar with what Doom is all about early in various marketing materials would be smart. Downey’s MCU return is the film’s biggest selling point, so Marvel should embrace that on the promotional campaign.
