Jason Statham Is Under Siege in Thrilling First Trailer for New Action Movie ‘Shelter’
It’s that time of year. No, not Christmas, Stathmas. Jason Statham is gearing up for another early-in-the-year release, and 2026 is just a month away. The first trailer for Shelter has just dropped, giving audiences their first look at Ric Roman Waugh’s latest action-drama before the film hits theaters on January 30, 2026. Statham leads the film alongside Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet), Naomi Ackie (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Mickey 17), and Oscar nominee Bill Nighy (Living). Here’s the official synopsis:
“On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man (Statham) rescues a young girl (Breathnach) from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption.”
Black Bear’s release of the trailer follows a reshuffling of Statham’s release slate — with his other action film, Mutiny, recently moving out of its January slot — leaving Shelter to kick off his 2026 in brutal, brooding fashion. We’re sure he’ll find some bad guys whose skulls are in desperate need of a good kicking, punching, shooting, or whatever else he can come up with. Waugh’s past work with grounded, muscular action (and large-scale disaster tension in Greenland, which we are huge fans of here at Collider) suggests Shelter will balance high-stakes thrills with emotional weight. And, of course, some delightful British stoicism from the Stath.
Bill Nighy on Working With Jason Statham
Nighy, who joins the ensemble in an antagonist role, shared new details during a recent interview with MovieWeb while promoting Lazarus. “It was great, and it was shot in Ireland,” he said. “It was so great to meet Jason. He was very generous and welcoming to the whole crew and everybody. It was a very cool gig.” Nighy also revealed that audiences shouldn’t expect his character to be friendly: “I’m not playing a nice guy. I don’t get employed to be nice. But it was very good, and I got to work with Jason.”
Despite Statham’s famously tough on-screen persona, Nighy described him as warm, gracious, and collaborative — echoing comments from many of Statham’s co-stars over the years. Statham’s latest movie, Shelter, will be released in theaters on January 30, 2026.
