Taylor Swift’s Restored Speak Now Song In The Eras Tour Movie Missed A Huge Opportunity For Other Cut Songs

March 19, 20244 Mins Read

Summary

  • Disney+ restored “Long Live” in The Eras Tour, leading to missed opportunity to switch credits song.
  • Two missing songs from the filmed concerts could have replaced “Long Live (Taylor’s Version)” over the credits.
  • Despite not being in the movie, Taylor Swift’s performances of “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude)” could still be added later.

Disney+’s The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) restored a setlist song from Taylor Swift’s Speak Now album that was removed from the film’s theatrical release, which missed an opportunity to add back another cut track. Though the theatrical version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour cut several songs from the concert series’ playlist, the Disney+ iteration of the film included a few surprises by adding back most of these beloved songs. Still, two Taylor Swift songs remained missing from those that were performed on the Los Angeles dates when the movie was filmed.

Among the most beloved songs cut from the movie’s theatrical version was “Long Live,” which meant that the 2023 film’s only Speak Now era song was “Enchanted.” However, the Disney+ version of the film added “Long Live” back into its original slot from the concert, placing it right after “Enchanted” and before “22” in The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’s 48-song setlist. Though “Long Live” returning to its setlist placement is exciting, the fact that the song technically plays twice in the Disney+ film creates a big missed opportunity.

Taylor Swift Restoring “Long Live” Means The Eras Tour Movie’s Credits Could Have Played A Different Cut Song

While Swift’s performance of “Long Live” was missing from its place in the setlist for the theatrical cut of The Eras Tour movie, the recording of “Long Live (Taylor’s Version)” played over the closing credits. This was presumably a way to make up for the performance of the track originally being cut from the movie, but it remained the song played for the Disney+ version’s closing credits as well. However, after restoring “Long Live” to the main setlist, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) had the perfect opportunity to replace the credits’ song with one of the two tracks that were still cut from the streaming movie.

Even though Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) is three and a half hours long, some of the Swifties’ favorite songs are still missing.

After three versions of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie, the only two songs cut from each one are “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude).” Both songs were filmed considering they were performed on the Los Angeles August 3–5 dates, but neither made it into the movie – even as recordings for the credits. It’s likely that “no body, no crime” was cut because it features HAIM performing alongside Swift, thus taking away from the film being exclusive to Taylor Swift and her backup dancers, vocalists, and musicians. Meanwhile, “seven (Interlude)” may not have made it because the song is performed as a spoken poem interlude.

Disney+ Could Still Release “No Body No Crime” & “Seven (Interlude)” After Being Cut From The Eras Tour Movie

Despite being absent from the movie itself, Taylor Swift’s performances of “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude)” from her So-Fi Stadium appearances could potentially still find their way onto Disney+. Since the performances were already filmed, it’s possible that they could be added as separate bonus or extra features for the movie on Disney+, similar to when other shows or movies on the streamer add tie-in featurettes. The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) already has a separate 27-minute feature for the film’s bonus acoustic collection, so there’s still hope for “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude)” to eventually be added.
