Netflix’s new Luther movie to reunite Idris Elba with ‘dangerous’ legend
Netflix has announced that Idris Elba is returning as DCI John Luther in a new feature film, which will follow on from Luther: The Fallen Sun
Netflix has confirmed that Luther will make a comeback in a brand new feature film, which will also feature Dermot Crowley reprising his role as Martin Schenk.
The upcoming film will serve as a sequel to Luther: The Fallen Sun, which landed in 2023.
Director Jamie Payne and writer Neil Cross, who originally created the acclaimed crime drama series, are both returning for this latest instalment.
The formidable Ruth Wilson is also back as Alice Morgan, something which has left Cross delighted.
He told Tudum: “Luther, Alice, and Schenk are more than characters to me – they’re family. I never stop wondering where they are, what’s become of them … and what horrors might be stirring in the shadows of London while Luther’s not around.

“So we decided to get together and find out what happens next.”
The fresh film will centre on a savage, apparently indiscriminate spate of killings across London, with Luther quietly brought back into action.
His mission is complicated by the fact that virtually everyone appears intent on killing him.
Director Payne called it “a wonderfully dark tale”, saying it was a “true joy to be back”.
He added: “I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson.
“Fans new and old are in for a treat!” Following the announcement on Netflix’s official X account, supporters rushed to the comments section to share their enthusiasm.
Nick New commented: “Idris, Ruth and Dermot reunited? Take my night, my weekend, my soul.”
NoCapNews chimed in: “That’s thrilling news – Elba’s return as Luther always promises dark, gripping storytelling at its best.”
Lofty Reigner remarked: “The cast is already phenomenal, what else can we ask for.”
The new Luther film will be available on Netflix.
