Secret Wars Loses Release Date
An MCU movie that was originally supposed to arrive before Avengers: Secret Wars has lost its release date.
Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers. That Marvel Studios movie is expected to arrive in 2026, while the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, has a 2027 release date. Secret Wars is also being directed by the Russo Brothers.
When was the pre-Avengers: Secret Wars MCU movie supposed to come out?
There was also supposed to be an MCU movie releasing between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel, however, has removed this untitled project from its release schedule. It was originally dated for July 23, 2027.
Rather, Disney and 20th Century Studios have announced that The Simpsons Movie 2 will be released on July 23, 2027, instead. The only other film scheduled to arrive on the same day at this time is Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation’s Bad Fairies, which comes from director Megan Nicole Dong. James Gunn’s Superman follow-up movie, Man of Tomorrow, will be released earlier in the month on July 9, 2027.
Given that it’s unknown what this new 2027 MCU was going to be (popular theories include Black Panther 3 or Doctor Strange 3), it’s unclear what kind of impact, if any, this has on the forthcoming Avengers movies. Avengers: Doomsday officially releases on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
Before that, Marvel and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, swings into theaters on July 31, 2026. That movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, will see Tom Holland once again reprise his role as Spider-Man, while the cast further includes Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone.
