The Best Horror Movie of 2025 Scares Away Pennywise To Claim Top Spot on Streaming
Halloween is the season that, often, belongs to people like Stephen King. The famous horror writer has many creepy tales that fans love to revisit. One of his most horrifying stories is It. The popular book was turned into a two part franchise starting with the release of It in 2017 and It: Chapter Two in 2019. But this Halloween, the Andy Muschietti films have been taken over by a new kind of horror movie thanks to Zach Cregger. Aunt Gladys has convinced everyone to run to HBO Max and watch Weapons instead of leaning into Pennywise this Halloween season and that’s kind of wild.
Weapons took over the top spot on HBO Max and that’s exciting for Warner Bros. as a whole. The Cregger film hit theaters earlier this year and was met with a lot of praise from fans of the genre. Justine (Julia Garner) is a teacher whose entire class, except for one boy, goes missing one night all at the same time. Their small town blames her and everyone is pushed into trying to figure out what happened to these kids.
Which is here Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan) comes into play. Gladys is the great aunt of Alex (Cary Christopher), the only young boy who doesn’t run off into the woods. And Aunt Gladys has become a topic of fans everywhere. From comic con looks to Halloween costumes, she was a smash hit so it isn’t surprising that Weapons has risen to the top of the streaming charts. Guess all it took was a woman with bad make-up and hot pink outfits to defeat Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Warner Bros. Has Had a Great Year in Horror
Weapons was not the only horror movie that Warner Bros. put out this year. They also had the final installment in The Conjuring franchise starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson and they also had the smash hit film of the year: Sinners. The Ryan Coogler movie has been a favorite of the year since its April release date and is even going back into IMAX screens for fans to see again. And if you weren’t Aunt Gladys for Halloween this year, you probably were a vampire of some kind from Sinners. We all danced around to “Rocky Road to Dublin” this year, right?
So even though Pennywise has been dethroned, at least it was for a queen. You can watch Weapons on HBO Max now!
