The Simpsons Movie 2 has received a release date.
The Simpsons received their first theatrical film, titled The Simpsons Movie, in 2007. Directed by David Silverman and based on the long-running animated sitcom created by Matt Groening, the film was a massive box office hit, as it brought in approximately $536.4 million worldwide.
There have been talks about making another Simpsons Movie for years. Now, the project has taken a huge step forward as Disney and 20th Century Studios have announced a release date for The Simpsons Movie 2.
When is the release date for the new Simpsons movie?
The Simpsons Movie 2 will be released in United States theaters on July 23, 2027.
On Instagram, 20th Century Studios has also shared the first poster for the movie, confirming its release date. While it doesn’t offer any information in terms of plot, it does see Homer reaching for a donut, covered with “2” sprinkles, while the logline reads, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

The Simpsons Movie from 2007, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Disney+. The synopsis for that film reads, “The combination of Homer (Dan Castellaneta), his new pet pig, and a leaky silo full of excrement triggers a disaster that threatens not just Springfield but the entire world. An angry mob descends on the Simpson home, splitting the family. With Earth’s fate in the balance, Homer sets out on a quest for redemption in order to save the world and earn Marge’s (Julie Kavner) forgiveness.”
That movie received positive reviews from both fans and critics, as it currently has an 87 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. It received a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards, among other accolades.
