Fall 2025 is jam-packed with a slate of exciting Netflix movies, perhaps most notably Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. And there’s plenty more where that comes from. Let’s take a tour.
Netflix movies have been a mixed bag so far in 2025. From big-budget flops such as The Electric State, to half-decent entries like The Thursday Murder Club, to standouts like Havoc. There’s been no shortage of entertainment. Looking ahead to what’s in store for the streamer as we enter the latter stages of the year, there are certainly a few that catch the eye.
Whether you like fantasy, romance, drama, animation, or a bit of everything — here are 10 must-watch movies coming to Netflix in Fall 2025.
French Lover
Streaming on Netflix: September 26
A charming romance, French Lover stars Lupin actor Omar Sy as Abel Camara, an A-list actor who unexpectedly falls for a girl next door, a down-on-her-luck waitress played by French comedian Sara Giraudeau. The movie is helmed by debutant director Nina Rives and executive produced by Hugo Gélin. Given that Sy has become a massive Netflix star through Lupin (soon returning for season 4) and his new Extraction series, both of which are action-oriented, it’ll be interesting to see how much range the actor has.
Steve
Streaming on Netflix: October 3

From Peaky Blinders to Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is one of the biggest actors in Hollywood nowadays. His next project is Steve, taking him to mid-90s England where he plays a head teacher tasked with saving his struggling school from inevitable closure. It also follows troubled teen student Shy (Jay Lycurgo), who forges a close bond with Steve. The movie is a retelling of Max Porter’s best-selling novel Shy.
The movie has picked up mostly positive reviews thus far through its premieres during the film festival circuit. Peter Debruge for Variety said in his review, “A profoundly moving and superbly acted diamond in the rough, ‘Steve’ is better than anything the streamer has pushed for best picture to date.”

The Woman in Cabin 10 is a psychological thriller movie from Simon Stone, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. The story takes place on a luxury cruise, where a journalist witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night. However, when she tries to recount the events, she’s told that it must’ve been a dream. Determined to find her own answers, she ends up putting herself in danger.
The picture has a stacked cast, including Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice), Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential, The Hurt Locker), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface).
The Twits
Streaming on Netflix: October 17
Back in September 2021, Netflix made an enormous deal which saw them purchase the Roald Dahl Story Company, acquiring the rights to all of his books. Dahl needs no introduction, but for those of you who need a reminder, some of his most iconic books include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and so on.
On October 17, Netflix will release its animated adaptation of Dahl’s classic novel The Twits — which follows a nasty and lazy couple who play tricks on each other to amuse themselves. They not only play tricks on each other, but also a family of monkeys, who plan revenge of their own.
A House of Dynamite
Streaming on Netflix: October 24
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and written by Noah Oppenheim, A House of Dynamite is a political thriller. The movie boasts a stellar cast including Rebecca Ferguson, Idris Elba, and Anthony Ramos. The movie is set after a mysterious, unidentified missile is launched towards the United States, beginning a race for military forces to find the perpetrators and to find a means to respond.
The movie had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. So far, critics are heaping praise on it: a review from The Guardian rated it 5 stars.
Ballad of a Small Player
Streaming on Netflix: October 29
Described as a hypnotic blend of ghost story and psychological thriller, The Ballad of a Small Player comes from Edward Berger — the esteemed director of Conclave (2024). The movie follows journey of con man Lord Doyle (Colin Farrell), who finds himself infatuated by the mysterious allure of Macau. Enchanted by its unique atmosphere, Doyle becomes lost in there, sinking deeper into the world of gambling and baccarat.
Besides Colin Farrell, the movie also stars Fala Chen, Tilda Swinton, Deanie Ip, and Alex Jennings.
Frankenstein
Streaming on Netflix: November 7
From legendary director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water), Frankenstein is perhaps the most anticipated movie of Fall 2025. This movie has been a passion project and a long time coming for del Toro, and he seems to have delivered on every front.
While an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s seminal horror novel, this version takes on a different style, both visually and thematically. Told through del Toro’s signature gothic vision, the story focuses on the fragility of being human and moral ambiguity rather than the straight-up horror of previous adaptations.
The movie sees Oscar Isaac tackle the role of Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi becoming the monster. Early reviews haven’t been too favourable, but there’s no doubt that this movie will attract a lot of attention.
Jay Kelly
Streaming on Netflix: December 5
When it comes to all-star casts, it doesn’t get much bigger than Jay Kelly. The comedy-drama directed by Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach is full of Hollywood stars everywhere you look. It’s headlined by Adam Sandler and George Clooney. It takes place when famous movie star Jay Kelly (Clooney) and his manager Ron (Sandler) take a sabbatical through Europe, exploring new locations, confronting their life choices, and their ultimate legacies.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Streaming on Netflix: December 12
Director Rian Johnson has hit a home run with his clever, mystery Knives Out movies, and the latest instalment, Wake Up Dead Man, appears to be another standout success. The movie, which sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as master detective Benoit Blanc, had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2025, and critics are raving about it. For instance, a BBC review called it “funniest and most playful” mystery yet.
A standalone sequel to Glass Onion, Wake Up Dead Man features a darker and more gothic tone, in which Blanc faces his most challenging and dangerous mystery yet.
Goodbye June
Streaming on Netflix: December 24
Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet will se her directorial debut, Goodbye June, land on Netflix on Christmas Eve. A British festive drama, Goodbye June takes place just before Christmas, when June, a mother of four, falls ill. As her health deteriorates, the four fractured siblings and their father navigate the tough period in various messy ways. But for June herself, she wants to go out with laughs and love.
Winslet not only serves as director, but also stars in the movie. The cast includes Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, and Stephen Merchant.
