Hollywood star ‘leading the race’ to land James Bond role after string of hit movies
A NEW front runner for James Bond has been revealed, and British fans of the franchise may not be best pleased with who is leading the 007 race.
Since Daniel Craig’s final hurrah in 2021 and the movie series being taken over by Amazon, bookies have been betting on a slew of stars to take on the iconic spy; from Callum Turner to Tom Hardy.
But journalist and podcast host Marina Hyde has now revealed that “a number of people” have told her that Jacob Elordi is the current favourite amongst bosses.
If the Euphoria actor does get the gig, Bond fans may be displeased that the role hasn’t gone to a British actor.
But Jacob, who hails from Brisbane, wouldn’t be the first Aussie to play Bond, after George Lazenby took on the role for 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
“I have heard from a number of people now that Jacob Elordi has moved into poll position,” revealed Marina to Richard Osman whilst talking on their podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment.

She added: “I don’t think, no one has signed anything yet.”
Going on to explain why he could be a good fit, Marina shared: “There’s lots of things interesting about Jacob Elordi, first of all, it’s important, women already want to sleep with him.
“Now, Daniel Craig was some of the best casting of all time. That was a Barbara Broccoli pick and it was a real move because a lot of people were like, ‘Sorry who? I don’t see it’.
“But the second I saw the film I was like, ‘No, yeah, you’re right, I do want to sleep with him’.”
James Bond frontrunners
While a decision on the 007 spy is yet to be made, a number of frontrunners have been revealed
Callum Turner
- The Capture actor, 36, is currently top pick by the bookies, with some even putting 1/1 odds on the star.
- Callum, who hails from London and is engaged to pop star Dua Lipa, previously said of the 007 speculation: “it’s very early for that question. I’m not going to comment on it.”
Harris Dickinson
- Second pic by the bookies is Babygirl actor Harris, 29, who has dubbed the speculation “certainly interesting”.
Jacob Elordi
- Jacob, 28, is the only Aussie to be on the shortlist for the agent role, and is a certified A-lister following a string of high-profile roles.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson
- Back in 2024, Aaron was the frontrunner to take on the Bond role, but has since slid down the list.
- The 35-year-old rose to fame in teen movie Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and has since appeared in films such as 28 Years Later and Bullet Train
Henry Cavill
- Whilst The Witcher’s Henry Cavill has been widely speculated for the role, he has described himself as “too old” to take on Bond.
- Henry, 43, was actually a top contender for the role the last time it was up for grabs, losing out to Daniel Craig.
- He remains in the bookies’ shortlist.
She then noted that Jacob was a “gen-Z” – which Richard replied was something that could work in his favour.
Richard said: “He’s 28, Jacob Elordi, so he could easily do 10 years – that’s what they really want, they want someone who is going to own this for a generation.
“He’s not British, I think he can get away with it being Australian, I don’t think you can have an American one, no matter how good the accent.
“We’ve seen him in Saltburn, his English accent is flawless, it’s fine,” added Marina.
Alongside Jacob, bookie frontrunners include Callum Turner, 36, Harris Dickinson, 29, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 35.
Despite the whispers, Fantastic Beasts star Callum remains at the top of the betting pile to take on the role, with Jacob in third place behind Babygirl actor Harris.
