Disney+ Viewers Are Suddenly Obsessed With R-Rated Action Movies
Around the world, Disney is known for its family-friendly content, be it their animated films or live-action features. But in the past years, with its widening portfolio, the company has acquired many R-rated films, and has stopped shying away from ordering its own mature content, like Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine, which became a magnanimous success. As a result, Disney+ now has plenty of R-rated content that fans enjoy at their own ease.
Disney+, the streaming service of the giant, is full of old and new mature content, and now it has taken over the charts. Not one but three R-rated features — Punisher: One Last Kill, Send Help, and Predator: Badlands — have found a spot on Disney+ charts, as per FlixPatrol. Jon Bernthal’s straight-to-streaming feature The Punisher: One Last Kill, which marks the third Special Presentation from Marvel Studios, is at the top spot of the charts. The one-shot style story cements Punisher’s standing in the MCU before we see him in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Throwing a light on Frank Castle’s emotional transformation after finally avenging his family, how he finds a reason to keep going, makes the crux of the series, and of course, a LOT of blood and gore is involved.
It’s followed by Sam Raimi’s return to the horror genre after 17 years, Send Help, at the second spot. Starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien, the 93% Rotten Tomatoes-scored film did wonders at the box office, earning $94 million against a $40 million production budget. The feature follows an overworked corporate analyst, Linda Liddle, and her arrogant nepo-baby boss, Bradley Preston. Things take a turn when the two are left stranded as the only survivors after the company plane crashes, as they are marooned on a deserted island where the corporate ladder disintegrates. The feature is full of good performances and Raimi’s signature gory, diabolical visuals.
‘Predator: Badlands’ Is Going Strong on Disney+
While The Punisher: One Last Kill and Send Help are newer additions to Disney’s catalog, Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands has been making waves as an intense PG-13 entry for a long time on the service, and along with the aforementioned movies, has reemerged at the ninth spot on the charts. The 86% Rotten Tomatoes-scored feature gives us a fresh look at the long-running franchise by bringing forth the story of a young Yautja exiled from his clan, who finds an unlikely ally in a damaged android and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
