From period dramas and supernatural thrillers to heartfelt stories and adrenaline-packed action, the big screen is alive with a mix of genres from both South and Bollywood cinema. Here’s a roundup of all the movie releases you won’t want to miss this week.
1. Kaantha (November 14)
Get ready for an immersive cinematic experience with Kaantha, a Tamil-language period drama thriller co-written and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj. Featuring Dulquer Salmaan, Rana Daggubati, Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse, the film is inspired by the life of legendary actor-singer M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. Set in 1950s Madras, the story delves into the world of Tamil cinema, focusing on the complex relationship between director Ayya and film star T.K. Mahadevan, whom he once mentored.
2. Kaal Trighori (November 14)
The much-anticipated supernatural thriller Kaal Trighori brings together Arbaaz Khan and Bengali star Rituparna Sengupta in a chilling tale that fuses ancient legends, cosmic mysteries, and Indian folklore. Directed by Nitin Vaidya and produced by Shirish Vaidya, Nitin Ghataliya and Mansukh Talsaniya, the film offers an intense narrative layered with suspense and mythology. With a stellar ensemble cast featuring Mahesh Manjrekar, Aditya Srivastava, Rajesh Sharma and Mugdha Godse, Kaal Trighori promises to deliver a cinematic experience that transcends conventional horror and psychological thrillers.
3. Running Man (November 14)
Inspired by Stephen King’s 1982 novel, Running Man is a dystopian action thriller that takes audiences into a deadly game show where survival is the ultimate prize. Set in a dark, futuristic world, the plot follows contestants who must outrun and outsmart professional hunters for 30 days to win a staggering 1 billion dollars. With an impressive cast including Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin, this film is a gritty mix of adrenaline, moral dilemmas and suspense.
4. Athi Bheekara Kaamukan (November 14)
Adding a touch of soul and humour to this week’s releases is the Malayalam film Athi Bheekara Kaamukan, directed by Gautham Thaniyil. The film stars Lukman Avaran, Drishya Reghunath, Aswin Vijayan and Manohari Joy in lead roles. The story follows a young man on the verge of ending his life, only to encounter Yama, the god of death, who unexpectedly becomes part of his emotional journey. Together, they explore love, loss and laughter in a tale that celebrates life even in the face of despair.
5. De De Pyaar De 2 (November 14)
While technically a Bollywood film, De De Pyaar De 2 joins the festive weekend lineup with its lighthearted romance and emotional depth. Ajay Devgn returns as Ashish, alongside Rakul Preet Singh and R. Madhavan, in this sequel to the 2019 hit rom-com. Directed by Anshul Sharma, the sequel picks up after the first film, following 52-year-old Ashish as he visits his 28-year-old girlfriend Ayesha’s family to seek their blessing for marriage. The story once again explores themes of love versus family expectations, with plenty of humour, heart, and generational clashes.
