The Movie is happening, here’s everything we know
Leave it to Jenny Han to send fans into a frenzy just 12 hours after releasing The Summer I Turned Pretty season three finale. The official TSITP Instagram is sending fans into a tizzy after sharing a photo that teases “The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie.” And, yeah, it’s actually happening.
The announcement came as a shock to fans on Wednesday afternoon, when the official TSITP account shared a photo from The Summer I Turned Pretty finale premiere celebration in Paris. The pic shows stars Lola Tung and Christopher Briney posing in front of a cinema marquee that reads “The Summer I Turned Pretty” with “The Movie” written underneath. Lola and Christopher are both tagged in the post, as are author and showrunner Jenny Han, Prime Video, and Amazon studios.
So, does this mean we’re actually getting a Summer I Turned Pretty movie? According to Variety, yes! The outlet confirmed the news shortly after the Instagram post. Details are few, but Variety reports that the movie will be written and directed by Jenny Han and “continue the story of the series.”
What will The Summer I Turned Pretty movie be about?
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans,” Jenny said in an official press release.
Spoiler alert: the following will include spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty series finale.
Jenny has yet to reveal more info, but fans of the original book series will recognise that the TSITP series finale left out one key moment from the books: Belly and Conrad’s wedding. Instead, the series ended with Belly and Conrad returning to Cousins—definitely back together, but not engaged or married.
Hopefully this wedding won’t be as traumatic as Belly and Jeremiah’s failed attempt in season three.
When will The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie come out?
Unfortunately, a release date has yet to be announced. It’s possible that we might have to wait until the summer, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the movie might be released sooner rather than later. Given the logistics of building sets and actors’ schedules, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie has already been shot. That said, we’ll just have to wait and see.
