Toy Story fans take ’20 years’ to spot hidden detail in first movie | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
It’s been three decades since the original Toy Story film hit cinemas back in 1995.
The animated adventure, featuring the vocal talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and others, chronicles a collection of toys preparing to relocate to a fresh home alongside their young owner Andy.
However, complications emerge when Sheriff Woody, the group’s chief, worries that Andy might soon substitute him after receiving a brand new plaything, Buzz Lightyear, for his sixth birthday.
Matters then intensify during a family outing for supper at Pizza Planet where Woody inadvertently pushes Buzz through the window, causing the other toys to suspect he killed him.
Buzz challenges Woody resulting in a scuffle and a tumble from the vehicle where both are abandoned, surviving on their own.
Following the initial legendary chapter in the 90s, Toy Story continued with four follow-ups, with the fifth scheduled for launch in 2026.
Recently, one cinema enthusiast couldn’t resist highlighting a minuscule element in the original picture which influenced all subsequent sequels and even the complete Pixar cosmos.
Ivan Mars, recognised as the ‘Movie Detective’, commands 962,000 followers on Instagram where he identifies concealed elements in pictures.
Most lately, he was astounded after spotting one Toy Story element.
He remarked: “It took me 20 years to notice something hidden in Pixar movies… something that started in Pixar’s very first work: Toy Story. In that movie, Woody and Buzz are lost and their only chance to get back to Andy is to the Pizza Planet truck.
“Without it, the story might have ended right there and because of this, the Pizza Planet truck became a symbol appearing in every Pixar movie from Ratatouille to Cars.
“In Wall-E, it’s the only abandoned vehicle on Earth. And more recently in Elio, it appears in a blink and you’ll miss it scene. So this means it actually became Pixar’s secret thread because it saved the very first characters giving birth to the entire Pixar universe. Mind-blowing.”
Viewers were similarly stunned by the discovery as the post quickly attracted considerable attention. One exclaimed: “WHAAATTTT!”
Another remarked: “Omg so cool.”
A third observed: “Yes it’s one of the common Easter egg of Pixar movies!”
Others insisted there were additional concealed elements as someone noted: “The Pixar lamp is in every movie also I believe.”
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026.
Buzz, Woody and the remainder of the crew’s mission will become more challenging when they face off against a fresh menace to playtime.
