Born on October 3, 1949, in Mumbai, JP Dutta comes from a family rooted in cinema. His father, OP Dutta, was also a noted filmmaker and screenwriter.

Inspired by his father’s legacy, JP Dutta followed in his footsteps and ventured into the world of cinema, making his directorial debut with Ghulami in 1985.

Rise Through Patriotic Cinema

Ghulami, featuring a stellar cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Anita Raj and Mazhar Khan, became a box office success.

The success of his debut set the tone for his career, and JP Dutta went on to direct several patriotic films, through which he gained widespread recognition and respect.
