Jason Statham fans all say the same thing about new movie Mutiny
British action star Jason Statham’s latest film offering has received some interesting reviews
The verdict is finally in for Jason Statham’s action thriller Mutiny.
Mutiny landed in UK cinemas last week, and since then, filmgoers have been heading to watch the movie directed by Jean-François Richet. The 90-minute offering follows ex-police officer and commando Reed Cole (played by Jason Statham), who seeks to avenge the death of his former employer and billionaire CEO of cargo shipping company KMG, Tibu Campello (Ramon Tikaram).
His desire for revenge sees Reed boarding a ship to take down Tibu’s assassins, but what he finds on board is more disturbing than he could ever have imagined. Many have shared their thoughts on Mutiny on IMDb, where it holds a 5.8/10 rating.
Audience members didn’t hold back about The Transporter and Shelter actor’s latest big screen outing. One person posted in their 4/10 review: “Probably the worst Statham movie yet. Definitely the Aldi version of Die Hard if Die Hard was set on a ship.”
A second wrote in their 5/10 review: “Of his last four outings which include, ‘The Beekeeper’, ‘A Working Man’, ‘Shelter’, and this one … this film is the worst one.” They continued: “It is very plain and mundane. Average at best. But, as long as people like me keep going to his new movies, he will just keep making them.” The viewer added: “This is not a recommend. It’s just ‘okay’.”
A third commented in their 6/10 review that this was a “typical Jason Statham action flick” and said Mutiny was “more thrilling” than some of the actor’s more recent projects. While a 7/10 review read: “A very standard Jason Statham movie, but honestly, I mean that as a compliment.”
The person explained: “It’s not a great action movie, but it’s also definitely not a trash Statham movie. Sometimes you don’t need anything more complicated than that.” Although some film buffs were on the fence, others were more complimentary.
One posted in a glowing 8/10 review: “Of course is predictable, of course is simple. But as a Statham’s action movie is amazing and I loved every second of it.” Another with the same rating praised Mutiny: “This is a tense fast paced roller-coaster with great fight choreography. If you love movies like Die Hard then you will definitely enjoy this one.”
A third person gave the movie a top 10/10 rating and declared: “Overall, Mutiny was exactly the kind of popcorn action movie I wanted. Is it predictable? Absolutely. Does it follow familiar Jason Statham territory? 100%. Did I care? Not even slightly.” They concluded: “And with Jason + Annabelle Wallis + a giant ship + nonstop action, I was completely ALL ABOARD.”
Along with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Statham and Brassic and Fortitude star Tikaram, Mutiny also stars Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis, The Gentlemen’s Jason Wong, and Papillon star Roland Møller. Interestingly, Statham was the first choice for Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders, before Cillian Murphy managed to convince creator Steven Knight that he could take on the Birmingham gangster.
So Peaky Blinders fans can finally see the dynamic between Statham and Wallis play out on screen in Mutiny. Further cast includes The White Lotus’ Arnas Fedaravicius, Adrian Lester from Hustle and Sex Education’s Chaneil Kular.
