What do we know about Mark Wahlberg’s Arthur the King movie?
Arthur the King was based on an incredible true story told by Mikael Lindnord in his 2016 memoir “Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home.” In the film, Wahlberg plays the captain of a racing team who finds an unlikely friendship with a stray dog during a grueling endurance race. Even though it received mixed reviews from critics, the movie was a big hit among moviegoers. It currently holds a Popcornmeter score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is 27% higher than its Tomatometer rating.
“Over the course of ten days and 435 miles, an unbreakable bond is forged between pro adventure racer Michael Light and a scrappy street dog companion dubbed Arthur. The film follows Light, desperate for one last chance to win, as he convinces a sponsor to back him and a team of athletes for the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic. As the team is pushed to their outer limits of endurance in the race, Arthur redefines what victory, loyalty, and friendship truly mean,” reads the official synopsis.
Arthur the King was directed by Simon Cellan Jones, with Michael Brandt writing the screenplay. Wahlberg was joined by Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel, Juliet Rylance, Ali Suliman, Paul Guilfoyle, Rob Collins, and more. Producers were Wahlberg, Mark Canton, Stephen Levinson, Courtney Solomon, Tessa Tooley, and Tucker Tooley. It was executive-produced by Brandt, Lindnord, Dorothy Canton, Zev Foreman, Jen Gorton, and Greg Renker.
