“Thrilling” mystery adventure movie with Toby Jones and Daniel Mays gets new UK streaming home
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the star-studded mystery adventure starring Toby Jones and Daniel Mays, has landed a new streaming home in the UK. With plenty of talent in front of and behind the camera, this is a weekend treat!
The film, which is based on Hergé’s iconic comic book series, follows Tintin (Jamie Bell) and Captain Archibald Haddock (Andy Serkis) as they search for a long-lost treasure, though they are pursued by the villainous Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine (Daniel Craig).
Released in 2011, the animated film boasts a stacked voice cast, with Jones and Mays being part of a supporting cast that includes Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Mackenzie Crook, Cary Elwes and Tony Curran.
The talent behind the camera is just as exceptional, with Steven Spielberg serving as the director. Peter Jackson was a producer on the project, while the screenplay was co-written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish.
If you fancy a breezy watch over the weekend and don’t have anything particular in mind, then The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is available to stream in the UK and Ireland on Prime Video.

The film received positive reviews from critics and won the award for Best Animated Feature at the 69th Golden Globe Awards, while its average user rating on IMDb is an impressive 7.3 out of 10 from 252,000 reviews.
“The Adventures of Tintin is quintessentially the perfect family film: incredibly joyous, thrilling and comically genius,” wrote one user, adding: “The classy, hand-drawn, animated titles use the signature silhouette imagery with style and sophistication.”
“Mesmerising from the beginning to the end. That’s quite true if you consider that even the opening credits are little shining pearls of direction and creativity,” opined another viewer, while a third called it a “rollicking good adventure”.
Another user was also full of praise, writing: “The visuals are truly dazzling, so much colour and you can tell in both the settings, character designs and cinematography that a lot of effort had gone into it technically.”
After the film grossed $374 million at the box office, talk of a sequel has long abounded. Jackson was set to take over the directorial reins from Spielberg, though there haven’t been any official reports for a while.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is streaming now on Prime Video.
