Mendes described the long-awaited fantasy adaptation as having “the perfect balance of comedy and heart,” emphasizing that it doesn’t “make fun of itself the whole time” but maintains “a good sense of humor.” She said the script’s tone “pleasantly surprised” her and that she feels “really proud” of the film.
Mendes also praised the film’s emotional depth, noting that much of its magic will emerge in post-production. She said, “It’s so hard to walk away from these movies because so much is going to be done in post that you’re like, ‘How do I assess what we just walked away from?’ But I just have a feeling about this one.”
Directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, Masters of the Universe releases June 5, 2026. It marks nearly 40 years since Cannon Films’ 1987 version.

In a Variety interview, Morena Baccarin, who plays the Sorceress, praised Nicholas Galitzine’s transformation as He-Man. “It’s insane. I saw him on set and he’d been training for months and months and months. I was like, ‘Oh my god, how did you do that?’” she said. Baccarin shared that she and her brother grew up watching He-Man, calling it a “big part of my childhood.”
She said she was thrilled upon seeing her own costume and character design, adding, “It was really cool once I got there and saw the costume and what they had in mind for me—the whole get-up and the wig and contacts and all of it.” Baccarin concluded that her on-set experience was only a glimpse of what the finished film will deliver, saying, “I’m so excited to see what they make of it because I feel like my part of it was just such a small element to what it’s going to actually be in the end.”
