An action film praised as among the finest ever made is available to watch for free this evening. Featuring Jennifer Garner and John Ortiz, the picture first arrived in cinemas in 2018 and is now airing on Film4 at 9pm on Tuesday, June 30. Action-thriller Peppermint sees the 13 Going on 30 star portray a mother who transforms into a vigilante.

After her husband and daughter are killed by a drugs cartel in a calculated drive-by shooting, Riley takes justice into her own hands when the detectives handling the investigation fail to secure convictions. The synopsis, according to TVGuide, states: “Los Angeles bank worker Riley North is devastated when her husband and daughter are killed in cold blood on the order of a powerful drug lord, especially when the criminals escape justice,” reports the Mirror.

“Withdrawing from society, this mild-mannered mother goes off grid – and while grieving for the loss of her loved ones, she turns herself into a one-woman killing machine, before returning from the shadows to exact her revenge.”

Action movie fans have hailed Peppermint as “awesome” and a “must-see”, with one writing: “One of the best, if not the best, movies I have seen in a long time.”

Another called it “outstanding” while several said it was “underrated” and many even begged for a sequel.

One wrote: “I have never seen something this good other than Taken. I am so hoping they do a sequel or remake.”

“Hated to see it end,” another said, as someone else wrote: “Engaging since the first minute.”

One person said: “Edge of your seat action. This was so much better than Mission Impossible and my favourite movie of 2018 thus far.”

Actress Jennifer previously spoke about transforming into Riley for the role, saying: “I’d wanted to do something physical, but the roles that came my way didn’t have high enough stakes to make me believe in them.”

She continued to EW: “The drama has to be real, and the reason for risk has to be the highest imaginable.”

“It was full-on,” she added. “It was the greatest fun. Plus, no working mom is ever going to say to her kids, ‘Pardon me while I do my second workout,’ so the fact that it was my job allowed me to really indulge in that experience.”

Peppermint airs on Film4 from 9pm on Tuesday, 30 June.
