The Predator movies ranked worst to best according to fans
The Predator franchise has been terrorising and entertaining film fans since 1987, with a brand-new film in the series soon to be added to the list: Predator: Badlands.
Centred on humanity’s fight to survive against the terrifying Yautja warrior and its bloodthirsty hunt, the Predator franchise has been a mainstay in cinemas for decades, with varying results. Some films have been great, while others have been truly awful; yet, still, the Predator stands unbowed and unbroken by the box office.
Fans of the franchise have delivered their verdict on each film, helping others understand which ones are worth their time — and which they’re better off avoiding.
The Predator films are available to stream on Disney+.
8 | Alien vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
Alien vs Predator: Requiem is widely seen as the weakest movie in both the Alien and Predator franchises. (20th Century Fox)
Alien vs Predator was a concept that everyone was excited about: two of the most terrifying creatures in cinematic history going head to head? What’s not to enjoy! It turns out… quite a lot.
The first movie just about got away with its concept thanks to its novelty factor and fun script, but the 2007 follow-up, Requiem, didn’t enjoy the same success. The film centres on Predator hunters coming down to Earth to face the hybrid “Predalien” created in the first movie, and the result was panned by audiences and critics alike.
IMDb rating: 4.6
7 | The Predator (2018)
Olivia Munn and Boyd Holbrook starred in The Predator. (20th Century Fox/Alamy)
20th Century Fox attempted to reboot the Predator franchise back in 2018 with The Predator, an entry that saw a young boy accidentally trigger the return of the infamous hunters back to Earth. It is up to a ragtag group of ex-soldiers to fight off the killer alien and save humanity.
There was hope that the reimagining — from writer-director Shane Black, who starred in the original film — would help usher in a new era for the franchise, but it ultimately received poor reviews and was seen largely as a failure. At the very least, it was a hit at the box office, which meant it wasn’t long until another film in the franchise was made.
IMDb rating: 5.3
6 | AvP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Alien vs Predator saw the iconic monsters face off. (20th Century Fox)
The first Alien vs. Predator movie was surprisingly fun, thanks to its premise of pitting two of cinema’s greatest villains against each other. Paul W. S. Anderson brought his own flair to the franchise thanks to his work on the Resident Evil movies, and it was something that audiences enjoyed, even if very few fans felt it was a valuable addition to the canon.
IMDb rating: 5.7
5 | Predator 2 (1990)
Maria Conchita Alonso, Danny Glover, Rubén Blades in Predator 2. (20th Century Fox)
How does one follow up one of the greatest action movies of all time — starring one of Hollywood’s greatest action heroes? Well, for Predator 2, you cast Danny Glover and put the Lethal Weapon icon against the hunter in near-future America instead. The result was a fun action film that didn’t quite capture the magic of the original, but it has since gained a cult following.
IMDb rating: 6.3
4 | Predators (2010)
Agroup of elite warriors are hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators. (20th Century Studios)
Faring slightly better among fans is Predators, the 2010 movie that helped revive the franchise. Starring Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins and Laurence Fishburne, the story follows a group of humans who are abducted and taken to an alien planet, where they are hunted by predators.
Perhaps most memorable was its trailer, which featured a cool moment that didn’t end up being in the film – when Adrien Brody’s character finds himself with dozens of predator laser targets all over his body.
IMDb rating: 6.4
3 | Prey (2022)

Prey gave Dan Trachtenberg the keys to the franchise. (20th Century Studios)
Taking Predator in an exciting new direction, Prey took a step into the past, depicting the fight for survival of a young Comanche woman, Naru (Amber Midthunder), who goes up against a Predator in order to save her clan. Full of sensational action sequences and a stunning lead performance by Midthunder, the film was an instant hit, proving that the franchise still had life.
Director Dan Trachtenberg has essentially been given the keys to the Predator series following the success of Prey. As a fan of the franchise, he has been able to take the series to new heights with Prey, Killer of Killers, and now Badlands.
IMDb rating: 7.1
2 | Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)
Predator: Killer of Killers is the first animated film in the franchise. (20th Century Films)
The first animated movie in the franchise, Killer of Killers, proved an exquisite entry into Predator lore with its fascinating anthology of stories exploring different encounters with the alien hunters.
It showcased what the Predator franchise was capable of when given room to be creative and demonstrated that Trachtenberg was a truly safe pair of hands.
IMDb rating: 7.5
1 | Predator (1987)
The original Predator movie remains iconig. (20th Century Fox)
The one that started it all. Words can’t describe the sheer impact of Predator, which was released at the height of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fame and has helped to sustain a franchise for years to come. The movie finds Alan “Dutch” Schaefer and his elite paramilitary rescue team face off against a terrifying force with huge technological advantages against them.
The intense action film was scary due to its new, unseen villain, who was skilled at stalking and hunting down Dutch’s team. It was something different and exciting, and became a huge hit among fans, which is why it still remains the best-loved film in the franchise.
