Charlie Cox names his Gustave pick for Expedition 33 movie – fans will love it
For those who come after.
Daredevil actor Charlie Cox, and the voice behind Gustave in last year’s universally acclaimed Clair Obsur: Expedition 33, has name dropped who he thinks should play his character in the upcoming live action movie – and he’s thinking exactly what we’re thinking.
Interviewed by GamesRadar+ while attending the 2026 BAFTA Gaming Awards last week, Cox said: “I was thinking that they should probably – if they make the movie – they should get Robert Pattinson to play the part, and I should do the voice. Because then they would have pretty much the exact Gustave from the game.”
Although fellow British actor Robert Pattinson has had nothing to do with Expedition 33 so far, the internet pretty much unilaterally decided that Gustave’s facial features look strikingly similar to those of Twilight and The Drama star Pattinson.

Cox jokes that Sandfall could once again replace the actor’s voice lines with ADR from himself, essentially replicating the same Gustave we see in the game. Sandfall used actor Maxence Cazorla for the facial features and motion capture in its 2025 game.
Expedition 33 continues to see immense success, taking home three awards at the BAFTA Gaming Awards including Best Game, Debut Game, and with Jennifer English taking home the Performer in a Leading Role trophy.
The project from the plucky French team has proven so popular that a live-action movie is in the works at Story Kitchen – the same team that brought the animated Tomb Raider series to life.
An announcement post on Story Kitchen’s site reads: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sandfall Interactive to bring the rich, immersive world of ‘Expedition 33’ to the big screen.
“The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike.”
Casting for the movie project is currently underway. There’s currently no word on a planned release date, indicating that the project is likely still a fair way off coming to fruition.
Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 had a fairly stacked cast for a game on such a small budget, with Charlie Cox and Andy Serkis portraying the main protagonist and villain respectively. Could the live-action adaptation take a similar route? Charlie Cox seems to hope so.
