Demi Moore & Keke Palmer’s New Movie Is 2026’s Weirdest Film
Demi Moore and Keke Palmer are two co-stars in one of 2026’s weirdest movies. I Love Boosters, the new Boots Riley movie, is a chaotic film in the very best ways possible.
The film, released last week in theaters, is written and directed by Boots Riley. Riley previously directed 2018’s Sorry to Bother You and the 2023 television series I’m a Virgo. Alongside Moore and Palmer, I Love Boosters also stars LaKeith Stanfield, Naomi Ackie, Eiza González, Poppy Liu, Taylour Paige, and Will Poulter.
The film follows a group of professional shoplifters, also known as “boosters,” as they look to make a name for themselves while also providing for their community. In typical Boots Riley fashion, though the movie takes some wild turns, with some extremely weird stuff happening it. However, like Riley’s previous works, all of it culminates in an incredible experience.
I Love Boosters is a wild ride, but in the best way possible
It’s hard to get too deep into what makes I Love Boosters such a “weird” movie without spoiling some of its best parts. While the movie largely focuses on the boosters’ exploits, I Love Boosters features a ton of stuff that most would consider weird, including moments of stop-motion, gigantic puppets, outlandish comedic sections, cars driving up escalators, and even wacky, Looney Tunes-esque moments of comedy, including one where Keke Palmer’s legs begin windmilling as she tries to run up a slanted slope, sprinkled throughout.
The movie is an absolute mess at times in terms of sheer things happening, but it somehow always comes together to make for an incredible experience. The film is heavily committed to not only practical effects and sets, but also old-school movie techniques that are rarely utilized now. Matte paintings and tiny, hand-built miniature sets litter the movie and are always a joy to see.
Much like Riley’s Sorry to Bother You, I Love Boosters also features at least one or two moments where things take an absolutely ridiculous turn, but always seem to fit in the movie and get a laugh out of you. It helps that the cast seems to fit so perfectly in the movie. All of the main characters in the boosters group have such great chemistry, and all of them lean fully into the absurdity of the movie, never making it seem out of place at all.
On top of the weird factor, Riley’s movies also always have a great point littered underneath them. In I Love Boosters, it’s an incredibly pro-worker, pro-community theme that permeates through the entirety of the movie. Despite the chaos and outlandish nature of the movie, Riley’s movie features a strong heart and message needed in today’s day and age. It’s all wrapped in an entirely original, wacky film that’s worth seeing.
