5 must-see movies in June on Netflix, Prime Video and more including “captivating” heist thriller
With so many streaming services on offer and what feels like new movies every day, it can be hard keeping on top of all the new movie premieres and the movies that are genuinely worth a watch.
That’s where Digital Spy comes in handy as we do the hard work for you. If you don’t fancy going to the cinema this month to see the likes of Toy Story 5, Supergirl and Disclosure Day, there are some excellent options debuting on streaming services this month, including Netflix and Prime Video.
From a “captivating” heist thriller that plays out entirely on a computer screen to a new Netflix rom-com to be obsessed about, here are the five must-see movies being added to streaming services in June.
Dead Man’s Wire
Inspired by true events, Dead Man’s Wire is set in February 1977 as disgruntled real-estate developer Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård) takes mortgage broker Richard Hall (Dacre Montgomery) hostage, determined to expose Richard and his father as frauds.
The thriller marked the first movie from renowned filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) in seven years. It proved worth the wait with a strong 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it being hailed as Van Sant’s “most compelling film in years” by Financial Times.
Streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW (with Cinema membership) from 5 June
Over Your Dead Body
A remake of a Netflix hit that is dropping on Prime Video (confusing, but stick with us), Over Your Dead Body stars Samara Weaving and Jason Segel as a married couple who go to secluded cabin to repair their marriage. Secretly though, they’re both plotting to kill the other one.
You know you can trust Weaving in any genre role as she’s a modern Scream Queen, and Segel is always good value for a comedy. Pop the two of them together, throw some Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis in the mix, and you have the recipe for a damn good time.
Streaming on Prime Video from 10 June
Your Fault: London
Asha Banks and Matthew Broome are back as Noah and Nick in My Fault: London, the second instalment of Prime Video’s English-language adaptation of the hugely popular Culpables trilogy.
After the events of My Fault: London, Noah and Nick find themselves pulled in different directions as their relationship faces its toughest challenge yet. As their trust is tested, they must decide whether to fight for their love or risk losing it forever.
Streaming on Prime Video from 17 June
Voicemails for Isabelle
Netflix has become the go-to streamer for rom-coms, and Voicemails for Isabelle is hoping to be their next People We Meet on Vacation. They’ve even reunited with Zoey Deutch – who starred in Netflix’s Set It Up – to bring the rom-com magic.
A modern-day You’ve Got Mail, the rom-com follows Jill (Deutch) who copes with her sister’s death by leaving her voicemails about her life. Little does she know that her sister’s phone number has been reassigned and real estate agent Wes (Nick Robinson) has been receiving the messages. Love surely awaits.
Streaming on Netflix from 19 June
LifeHack
We guarantee you that you haven’t seen a heist thriller quite like LifeHack. Like Searching and Unfriended, the thriller plays out on a computer screen as four friends take their online scams to another level by targeting a billionaire… with devastating consequences.
Hailed as “captivating” by Collider and with a near-perfect 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, LifeHack will keep you gripped throughout and builds to one of the most tense heists of any heist thriller.
Streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW (with Cinema membership) from 21 June
