6 new movies and TV shows to stream this weekend

Pixar’s latest animated hit, “Hoppers,” made the leap to Disney+ earlier this week. In this family-friendly flick, college student and animal lover Mabel (Piper Curda) has her mind transferred to a robotic beaver in an attempt to help her local cute critters fight back against the building of a highway on their natural habitat. “Hoppers” also features an impressive voice cast, including Meryl Streep, Jon Hamm, and Dave Franco. Available on Disney+
‘EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’
After tackling the life and legacy of the “King of Rock and Roll” in “Elvis,” director Baz Luhrmann revisits the music legend in documentary form with “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert,” now streaming on Paramount+. The flick features footage from Presley’s Las Vegas residency in the ‘70s, including rare 16-millimeter and 8-millimeter video from the Graceland archives. And while Globe film critic Odie Henderson isn’t a big Elvis fan, he gave the film three stars in his review, writing that it “works well as a documentary” and “that Presley gave 110 percent to his audience at every show.” Available on Paramount+
No stranger to rom-com fare, Jennifer Lopez returns to the genre in “Office Romance,” streaming Friday on Netflix. Directed by Ol Parker (“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”), the film stars Lopez and “Ted Lasso” hunk Brett Goldstein (who also co-wrote the movie) as a pair of workaholics who, according to the flick’s logline, engage in a “secret office romance” that leads to some trouble as “they start thinking with their hearts.” Available on Netflix
New TV now available to stream

‘Michael Jackson: The Verdict’
The “King of Pop” is back in the zeitgeist thanks to the new “Michael” biopic, but the late superstar’s more controversial moments, not seen in the film, are covered in “Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” now streaming on Netflix. The new three-episode docuseries looks back at Jackson’s infamous 2005 trial, featuring interviews with jurors, attorneys, and others who were in the courtroom during the proceedings. Available on Netflix
Head back to the villa with the latest season of “Love Island USA,” now streaming on Peacock. The reality dating competition series has new episodes dropping daily (except on Wednesdays), so there’s no shortage of drama to check out for a binge watch this weekend. Plus, Season 8 features a local connection, with New Hampshire’s Kayda Reese Bosse joining the fun as one of the villa’s new “Bombshells.” Available on Peacock
The dark and steamy rom-com “Pillion” arrives Friday on HBO Max. Directed and written by Harry Lighton, who took home the Coolidge’s Breakthrough Artist Award earlier this year, the film follows a BDSM relationship between a meek man named Colin (Harry Melling) and Ray (Alexander Skarsgård), a mysterious biker. In his 3 1/2 star review, Henderson writes that the movie “is the story of that one relationship that defines a person, the one that finally reveals to them what they want out of sex, love, and life. We can all relate to that.” Available on HBO Max
