For a lot of film fans, there’s been one movie in particular they’ve been waiting for all year: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Well, the wait is almost over. Nolan’s star-studded adaptation of Homer’s epic is finally arriving in cinemas this month – almost exactly three years after the director’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer – and is undoubtedly the film event of the summer.

But it’s far from the only high-profile release in July, with none other than Spider-Man back on the big screen at the end of the month with Tom Holland – who also stars in The Odyssey – returning for the webslinger’s latest outing.

And there are plenty of other options as well, from Olivia Wilde’s acclaimed new film The Invite to cult Canadian comedy Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie and Evil Dead Burn – the latest entry in the legendary horror franchise.

Plus for younger viewers there are some big new releases as well, with the Minions back for their latest big screen adventure and Moana becoming the next in a long line of Disney animations to get a live action remake.

Best films released in the UK this month: July 2026

Minions and Monsters

Release date: Wednesday 1 July in cinemas

The Minions head back to the Golden Age of Hollywood in their latest adventure, which is once again helmed by Pierre Coffin and boasts Trey Parker, Jesse Eisenberg and Christoph Waltz in the starry voice cast.

The film sees the lovable yellow creatures try their hand at making a monster movie – only to accidentally unleash some terrifying and very real monsters into the world, forcing them to save the day.

The Invite

Release date: Friday 3 July in cinemas

Olivia Wilde’s latest directorial effort – following Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling – is a star-studded comedy about a dinner party that spirals out of control.

An English language remake of the Spanish film The People Upstairs, it stars Wilde and Seth Rogen as an unhappy couple who invite their somewhat enigmatic neighbours – played by Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz – for dinner, with unexpected results.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie

Release date: Friday 3 July in cinemas

This movie spin-off from a hit Canadian comedy show follows two wannabe music stars who accidentally travel back in time to 2008 – with several references to seminal sci-fi comedy Back to the Future.

Matt Johnson and Jay McCarroll star as fictionalised versions of themselves from a script they co-wrote, with Blackberry director Johnson helming the project. It seems certain to develop a cult following from both fans of the TV series and newcomers to their comedy.

Evil Dead Burn

Release date: Friday 10 July in cinemas

This latest entry in the iconic horror franchise is helmed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček and sees the Deadites unleashed on a grieving family – with predictably bloody consequences.

Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan are among the stars in this version, with legendary franchise creator Sam Raimi on board as an executive producer.

Rosebush Pruning

Release date: Friday 10 July in cinemas

Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Elle Fanning, Jamie Bell and Pamela Anderson are among the big names in this satirical drama from Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz.

It follows the members of an affluent but perverse family, with tensions running high after one of the adult children introduces them to his new girlfriend.

Moana

Release date: Friday 10 July in cinemas

Disney’s mega-hit animated musical about the titular Polynesian teenager is the latest film to get the live-action remake treatment – with Catherine Laga’aia starring in the lead role.

Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Maui from the animation and also serves as a producer – with Lin-Manuel Miranda also penning a new song in addition to the old favourites from the 2016 original.

The Odyssey

Release date: Friday 17 July in cinemas

Christopher Nolan’s hotly anticipated and extremely star-studded adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey finally lands in cinemas – almost exactly three years after his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.

Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron are just some of the huge stars in what seems certain to be the film event of the summer.

Animal Farm

Release date: Friday 17 July in cinemas

Andy Serkis’s animated version of George Orwell’s legendary satire boasts Seth Rogen, Steve Buscemi and Glenn Close among its starry voice cast.

The third animation of the book, it has been something of a passion project for Serkis – although it’s worth noting that reviews so far have not been especially positive.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Release date: Friday 31 July in cinemas

Tom Holland is back as the webslinger in this latest Spidey film – with Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and Severance’s Tramell Tillman joining the cast alongside MCU favourites like Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Mark Ruffalo.

According to a synopsis: “As the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he’s ever faced.”
